Five upcoming Chevrolet cars in India

General Motors is a company still waiting to step on the gas when it comes to the Indian car market. It has a car in almost every segment, but none are leaders yet. The most recognizable and talked about Chevrolet cars are the Cruze and the Beat, but not much is spoken of the others.

The company has eight models in the Indian market including the Spark, Beat, Aveo-U-Va, Aveo, Optra, Cruze and Captiva. And it’s planning to add another five vehicles in the next two years, although three of its present models will be pulled out of the market – the Aveo, U-Va and Optra in the next few months.

CarToq lists the upcoming launches from General Motors over the next two years

The Chevrolet Sail U-Va is GM’s premium hatchback that will replace the Aveo U-Va in the Indian market. The Sail U-Va will come in petrol and diesel engine choices. The diesel will likely be a 1.3 litre multijet diesel that will put out about 75 bhp of power, while the petrol U-Va will probably get the 1.2 litre petrol engine that powers the Chevrolet Beat. The U-Va is a spacious premium hatchback, showcased at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo. It has a slightly squared of design like the Figo and is slightly conservative with styling, which may appeal to buyers. It is likely to be priced between Rs. 5 lakh to Rs. 6.5 lakh.  Read more: Chevrolet Sail research hub

The Chevrolet Enjoy is an MPV that is likely to be positioned more toward the private buyer unlike the Chevrolet Tavera which has commercial patronage. It will compete with the Maruti Ertiga and Mahindra Xylo. The Enjoy that was displayed at the Auto Expo had a 1.4 litre petrol engine, but this is not likely to be the variant that will sell well enough for Chevrolet. The company will launch the Enjoy with a 1.3 litre diesel engine with a bigger turbocharger to bump up the power. It will be a seven-seater with all-forward facing rows. The Chevrolet Enjoy may be priced between Rs. 7 lakh to Rs. 9 lakh.  Read more: Chevrolet Enjoy seen testing

The Chevrolet Spin is one MPV that would probably garner far more interest in India. For the moment, it is only in the Brazilian market. The Spin looks bigger than the Maruti Ertiga, but carries the familiar Chevrolet family look. It has plenty of curves along its body line that make it look quite stunning. The Spin is expected to be priced between Rs. 7 lakh and Rs. 9 lakh to compete with the Maruti Ertiga and the Mahindra Xylo to some extent. The Spin is essentially a compact MPV which will appeal to lifestyle buyers who want a 7-seater, just like the Ertiga. Read more:  Chevrolet Spin official photos

Chevrolet Trax

(December 2014)

The Chevrolet Trax is a compact SUV based on a sedan platform. It has a muscular look to it and does display plenty of road presence. It looks like a smaller Captiva. The Chevrolet Trax is slightly narrower and shorter than the Duster in length. It is 4.25 meters in length and 1.77 meters wide. Just like the Duster and upcoming Ford EcoSport, the Chevrolet Trax will be positioned toward urban buyers and hence won’t have a four-wheel drive variant. It will be front wheel drive like the other two competitors. If launched, expect it to be priced against the Renault Duster in the Rs. 9 lakh to Rs. 12 lakh range.
