Force Gurkha vs Steep Flight of Stairs on Video

Force Gurkha is one of the most capable SUV that is currently on sale in the Indian market. Where the Mahindra has now focused on making the Thar more comfortable for daily use, the Gurkha is still a proper off-road focused vehicle. Here, we have two old videos in which we can see the older generation of Gurkha showing off its capabilities.

The videos are uploaded on YouTube by Force on Gurkha’s channel. In the first video, we can see a red coloured Gurkha that first crosses a stream. It seems quite deep considering that the Gurkha is underwater almost till its headlamps.

It crosses the river without any fuss. Then there are stairs and Gurkha starts climbing the stairs and makes it seem like it is a very easy job. However, it is not. To climb a set of stairs, a vehicle needs to have a good approach angle so that it does not damage its front, it should have good ground clearance so that it does not scrape its underbelly and the breakover should also be high so that the rear bumper does not touch the floor.

In the second video, we see there are two Gurkhas. One is just standing while the other one comes around it and then makes a serious jump. We can see that the SUV takes quite a beating when it lands. It seems like no damage was done to the SUV as the Gurkha continues to move ahead without any issue.

Force has launched new Gurkha

Force launched the new Gurkha in the Indian market in September. It now starts at Rs. 13.59 lakhs ex-showroom. We first saw the new Gurkha at the Auto Expo 2020 but because of the COVID-19, the launch was delayed. It competes directly with the Mahindra Thar and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Jimny.

The SUV now comes with circular LED Daytime Running Lamps and LED headlamps. It does look like an Indian version of Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen. It comes with a BS6 compliant diesel engine which has a capacity of 2.6-litres. The engine produces 91 PS of max power and 250 Nm of peak torque. It comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. It gets a proper 4×4 system with locking differentials and a low transfer case.

Gurkha comes with a factory-fitted snorkel that helps in increasing the water wading capability. It can go through 700 mm of water and can climb slopes of up to 35 degrees. The interior is still basic but Force has added a new touchscreen infotainment system.

Five-door Gurkha coming next year

According to the media rumours, a five-door version of the Gurkha is under development and can launch in late 2022. It will be based on the elongated version of the current Gurkha’s chassis. Needless to say that the five-door version of the Gurkha will be more practical than the three-door one that is currently on sale. It will get proper rear doors which will make getting in and out a lot easier. Currently, the rear occupants need to get in through the tailgate which can become quite cumbersome.
