Ford CEO: Tesla Cybertruck looks cool but it’s not for people who do real work

Jim Farley, the CEO of the American automotive giant Ford, recently expressed his lack of concern about the competition posed by the electric car manufacturing giant Tesla Inc’s futuristic forthcoming pickup, the Cybertruck, and other challengers in a recent interview. While discussing Ford’s new charging deal with Tesla, Farley compared the F-150 and the Cybertruck and emphasized their differences. It should be noted that although his comments may seem aggressive, they were simply made to highlight the obvious disparities between the two vehicles.

During his conversation with CNBC news reporter Jim Cramer, Farley discussed the future of Ford, the brand’s American identity, and its customer base. After addressing the decision to collaborate with Tesla on charging standards, he underscored how the Cybertruck and the F-150 target different demographics.

In reference to Elon Musk and his approach to designing a pickup truck, Farley stated, “If he wants to design a Cybertruck for Silicon Valley people, fine… It’s like a cool high-end product parked in front of a hotel. But I don’t make trucks like that. I make trucks for real people who do real work, and that’s a different kind of truck.”

Given that Ford and Tesla are rivals, these statements place Farley in a precarious situation. However, for those unaware, the two companies have recently reached a charging agreement, and Ford intends to include Tesla’s North American Charging Standard connection into its automobiles. Farley said, “I have no problem being opportunistic when it comes to advantaging my customers…” in regards to this relationship. Because it benefits customers, our team didn’t really hesitate.

For those unaware, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla Inc, first announced and unveiled the Tesla Cybertruck back in 2019. The Cybertruck is an all-electric pickup truck with a unique and futuristic design. It is made of a stainless steel alloy and features an angular body with sharp edges. The windows are made of Tesla Armor Glass, which is designed to be highly resistant to impacts and shattering.

When launched, the Cybertruck will be available in three powertrain options: single motor rear-wheel drive, dual motor all-wheel drive, and tri-motor all-wheel drive. The single motor version offers decent performance with a good range, while the dual and tri-motor versions offer better performance and improved off-road capabilities.

As of yet, the final prices for the Tesla Cybertruck have not been announced as the truck is yet to come into the production line. But at the time of its announcement, Elon Musk revealed that the truck will start at $39,900 USD for the single motor rear-wheel drive version. The dual motor all-wheel drive version starts at $49,900 USD, and the tri-motor all-wheel drive version starts at $69,900 USD. A limited “Founders Series” edition is also available for $200,000 USD. Overall, the Tesla Cybertruck is a unique and distinctive electric pickup truck that offers a competitive price point compared to traditional pickup trucks in its segment.
