Ford India was spotted testing a EcoSport 4WD in Chennai recently. However, this car isn’t meant for the Indian market. In fact, Ford exports a lot of EcoSport SUVs from India to countries around the world. For specific markets such as the United States, Ford offers an all-wheel drive, petrol variant of the EcoSport.
Apart from the all-wheel drive layout, the Ford EcoSport 4WD features a lot more powerful, 2.0-litre petrol engine. The motor makes as much as 163 Bhp and 202 Nm. It’s paired to a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox as standard. This trim is offered on the US-spec EcoSport, which is built in India and exported from here.
The Ford EcoSport recently got a facelift for the Indian market. The facelifted version came with major stylistic changes on the outside and new features on the inside. The interiors also got a more upmarket design. Apart from these changes, the EcoSport Facelift also got a new 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine from the Dragon line-up.
The new petrol motor makes 120 Bhp-150 Nm, and is offered with two gearbox options – a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic. Ford recently introduced the 1 litre-3 cylinder EcoBoost turbocharged petrol engine on the EcoSport. This motor makes 125 Bhp-170 Nm, and is paired to a new, 6-speed manual gearbox.
The EcoSport is also offered with a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder, TDCI turbocharged diesel engine with 98.6 Bhp of peak power and 215 Nm of peak torque. A 5-speed manual gearbox is standard with this engine. All variants of the EcoSport sold in India are front-wheel driven. The EcoSport is a well-built, sub-4 meter SUV that gets a host of safety options including 6 airbags, ABS+EBD and ESP. The SUV takes on vehicles, such as the Tata Nexon and Maruti Vitara Brezza. The EcoSport is one of Ford’s best selling cars in India. Prices of the compact SUV start from Rs. 7.82 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi.
