Ford EcoSport clocks 30,000 bookings in 17 days

If you’ve booked a Ford EcoSport good for you! If you’ve been planning on booking one, well, the waiting periods have just become longer.

The rush for the Ford EcoSport is one that hasn’t been seen in a long time, with 30,000 EcoSports being booked in just 17 days after launch. This kind of crazy booking numbers were last seen with the Mahindra XUV500 two years ago, when Mahindra had to shut down bookings after getting 25,000 bookings within 10 days. The Renault Duster clocked 6000 bookings within a week of launch. This just goes to show the potential well-priced SUVs (or compact SUVs) hold in India. WATCH: Ford EcoSport VIDEO review

The Ford EcoSport has been drawing in plenty of crowds at Ford showrooms with some of them resembling mini carnivals in the first week of launch. A member had to wait for one hour to just get a test-drive of a Ford EcoSport at a South Delhi showroom, where the dealer had to make a list of test drives and call out to customers waiting once their turn arrived – sort of like a crowded doctor’s clinic. All that buzz seems to be translating into sales as well. In the first month, Ford has already dispatched over 4,000 EcoSports to customers. However, even with production going on at full steam, which is around 6,000 vehicles apparently, the waiting period is now close to six months on some popular models like the EcoSport diesel. Sales in July are likely to be over 6,500.

The Ford EcoSport Ecoboost 1-litre petrol too has seen plenty of bookings and is in fact the more popular petrol variant that is being booked between it and the 1.5 petrol. The more popular variant though, according to dealers, has been the Ford EcoSport 1.5 diesel and the Titanium variant at that. Also Read: Ford EcoSport variants and features: fully loaded!
