As CarToq had told you earlier the Ford EcoSport compact SUV will be launched in both petrol and diesel variants.
The EcoSport petrol will be powered by a 1-liter engine that belts out an impressive 119 bhp of power. The diesel version will likely get the 1.5-litre TCDi motor that powers the Fiesta diesel. This engine puts out just 90 bhp of power and 204 Nm of torque.

The EcoSport will need a diesel variant to survive in the present Indian car market, where diesel engines are the need of the hour. The diesel engine to be used in the EcoSport will likely be manufactured at Ford’s Chennai plant where the car company recently ramped up production. Also read: Ford EcoSport launch postponed to 2013
One of the EcoSport’s key rivals, the Renault Duster has launched in India and the company expects 95 per cent of its sales to come from the diesel variants. The EcoSport too will likely sell more units if its diesel variant than petrol. Ford will however find it easy to produce the EcoSport now that their Chennai plant has new equipment that makes it flexible. The plant can produce both diesel and petrol engines, depending on the demand.
CarToq had recently shared official photos along with details about the features that the EcoSport is expected to come with. The production model of the EcoSport looks almost exactly like the concept barring the LED head lamp and tail lamp clusters. This is a good thing as production versions of most cars are drastically different from their concept versions.
We have already discussed in details how the EcoSport looks from the outside. On the inside the compact SUV will get a dashboard layout similar to that of the Fiesta sedan. IT will be loaded with features like hill launch assist, a smart start button (engine start button), steering mounted controls, ABS, ESP, Traction control, Bluetooth connectivity and voice activated controls. The EcoSport has two rows of seats that can accommodate five passengers and also has a 346 litre boot. The rear seats of the EcoSport can be folded to increase the boot space to 560 litres.
