Ford unveiled the SYNC3 system in 2014 globally, however there was no vehicle in India at that time to get the same software. Now though, the new system has made its Indian debut on Ford’s popular SUV, the Endeavour.
What is it?
SYNC is Ford’s in car voice command system which has been updated with the coming of the 3. It is faster than the outgoing one and has an enhanced voice command system. This one also gets the Emergency Assist system where in case of a deployment of airbags, the emergency services are automatically called, through a paired phone that is.
Other features include Android Auto, Apple Carplay, App link and Siri Eyes for the ios user. The system uses the 8″ touch screen unit which has been on offer in the Endeavour. This has been updated and now features gestures like pinch to zoom and swipe. The SYNC 3 system is powerd by Blackberry’s QNX Neutrino OS.
The SYNC 3 system will be on offer on the top of the line Endeavour, ie the Titanium trim level. It will be on offer on both the 2.2 liter variant as well as the 3.2 liter variant. Prices for the 2.2 start at Rs 27.93 lakhs where as that for the 3.2 start at Rs 30.89 lakhs. While the 2.2 comes only in 2wd format, the 3.2 comes in the 4wd format. Both are available in automatic versions only.
The Endeavour 4wd version comes with the Terrain Response system which allows you to choose between different off-road driving modes based on the conditions up front. You can choose between snow/mud/grass/sand and rock. Given the massive size of the SUV, it comes with semi auto parallel park assist that allows it to steer itself into a tight parking spot. You will have to use the accelerator and brake though.
While this is the first Ford to get this system, we expect this to be on offer on the new Figo, Aspire and the soon to be launched new Ecosport as well.
