Compact sedan buyers in India now have a new option available – the Ford Figo Aspire. The car replaces Ford’s Classic sedan and marks the American automaker’s entry into the sub-4 meter, compact sedan space. The Figo Aspire, named thus due to it sharing its underpinning (platform) with the new Figo hatchback, is available with three engine options, two powered by petrol and one powered by diesel. The new Ford starts from 4.90 lakh rupees, going all the way up to 8.25 lakh rupees, ex-showroom Delhi.

At these prices, the Figo Aspire is superb value for money and is a much better buy than the best selling Maruti Suzuki Dzire. The Dzire starts at 5.08 lakh rupees for the petrol powered version and 6 lakh rupees for the diesel powered version. Both entry level variants on the Dzire don’t offer twin airbags, making the Figo Aspire a much better car in value terms. What’s more, the Figo Aspire in diesel is much more powerful.
The Figo Aspire is one of the more proportionate looking compact sedans sold in India, and the global Ford design makes the car quite a natty looker. The car does have quite a few best-in-segment features. For instance, the petrol-automatic variant, which is powered by the 1.5 liter Ti-VCT petrol motor with 110 Bhp-136 Nm on tap, is the most powerful car in its class.
Also, the front wheel driven Figo Aspire is the only car to offer a 6 speed, twin clutch automatic gearbox. In terms of safety features, the petrol automatic variant offers 2 airbags, ESP, hill hold assist and ABS+EBD, and this again makes the car quite loaded in safety terms. Ford offers six airbags and ABS+EBD in the Titanium+ variants of the 1.2 petrol and 1.5 diesel cars.
The 1.2 liter Ti-VCT petrol motor makes 86 Bhp-110 Nm while the 1.5 liter TDCI turbo diesel engine puts out 98.6 Bhp and 215 Nm. Both cars use 5 speed manual gearboxes to turn the front wheels. The diesel variant of the Figo Aspire is also the most powerful car in its class, with a segment leading torque number. It manages 25.89 Kmpl in terms of the ARAI certified mileage figure. The car measures 3,995 mm in length, 1,695 mm in width, 1,525 mm in height, and gets a 2,491 mm wheelbase.
Ground clearance is rated at 174 mm, while boot space measures 359 liters. Disc brakes up front and drums at the rear are standard issue. In terms of prominent creature comforts, the Figo Aspire offers automatic climate control, electrically retracting wing mirrors, steering mounted audio controls, tilt function for the steering, a SYNC infotainment interface with Bluetooth connectivity and follow-me-home headlamps.
