Facelifted Ford Figo reaches dealerships: To be cheaper than the Maruti Swift

The facelifted version of the Ford Figo has begun reaching dealerships ahead of its official launch on the 15th of  March. Ford dealers are also taking bookings for the facelifted Figo, and deliveries will begin right from the day of  launch. Ford will announce prices of the facelifted Figo on the 15th of March. Considering how well the American  automaker has managed to price the Freestyle (Figo based crossover) and the Aspire compact sedan, the facelifted Figo is likely to get a very competitive price tag – a price that makes it significantly cheaper than the segment leader – the Maruti Swift.

The facelifted Figo gets styling revisions at the front and rear. The front end gets a new grille and a sharper  styled bumper. At the rear, there’s a sharper styled bumper and the tail lamps get a slight facelift. The profile  remains unchanged but for the alloy wheel design. The alloy wheels are 15 inch units, and fill out the wheel wells  nicely. On the inside, the facelifted car gets new seat fabric, and the rear seat gets headrests. Other major  changes include the addition of a top-end Titanium-Blue trim, keyless entry, push button start, automatic headlamps,  rain sensing wipers and a head unit with Bluetooth and navigation.

As for safety features, twin airbags will be standard on the lower variants while the top end variant will offer 6  airbags. ABS, rear parking sensors, seat belt reminders for the front seats and a speed alert warning beeper will be  standard across trims. All in all, the facelifted Figo adds quite a bit of equipment, and gets a minor makeover on  the outside.

As for mechanicals, the 1.2 liter-3 cylinder, naturally aspirated Dragon petrol motor with 95 Bhp-120 Nm will be the  entry level motor. A 5 speed manual gearbox will be standard. Ford will also offer a much more powerful 1.5 liter  Dragon petrol engine with 123 Bhp-150 Nm outputs. This engine will be available only with a 6 speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The diesel engine on the Figo will be the tried and tested 1.5 liter TDCI unit with 98.6 Bhp-215 Nm. Known for excellent driveability, and punchy performance right off idle till about 4,000 rpm, this motor will be paired to a 5 speed manual gearbox as standard. Ford is also expected to offer a sportier S trim on the facelifted Figo after a while.

As for pricing, the facelifted Figo will undercut the Freestyle, which starts from Rs. 5.43 lakhs. We expect the Figo  Facelift to start from about Rs. 4.9 lakhs, and this price tag will mean that the car actually undercuts the best  selling car in the segment – the Maruti Swift.
