Ford has started testing a Figo with cosmetic updates near its manufacturing plant in Chennai. Ford may launch the Figo with cosmetic updates during the festival season in October 2012.
The Figo facelift has design changes such as new headlamp cluster, new radiator grille and new fog lamp housing. Though camouflage hides the changes, they do leave us some clues. For instance, the headlamp cluster gets turn indicators positioned inwards unlike the current model where the turn indicators are positioned above the headlamps. The fog lamp housing may have a leaf-like shape similar the new Maruti Dzire.
The mild changes may not translate into a hike in prices of the Figo to a large extent. The test mule carried a temporary registration plate, had bright yellow exterior paint and slightly camouflaged tail lamp cluster hinting there may be changes in these parts as well. The test car also featured a new alloy wheel design.
There are no interior spy shots but we expect some new comfort features such as steering mounted audio controls and tilt steering to come in the new top-end variant of the Figo, which are already available in other top-end variants of premium hatchbacks such as the Swift and i20.
With a drop in car sales due to fuel price hikes, inflation and rising car loan interest rates, car manufacturers tend to use cosmetic facelifts to make their products appeal to potential buyers. Since its launch in 2010, Ford has not updated the Figo. If Ford launches the Figo with mild cosmetic changes, it could create some interest among potential buyers especially during the festival season. Also read: Ford Figo Owner Review
The Figo is a value for money hatchback that has helped Ford clock large sales numbers not just in the domestic market, but also abroad. Will you wait for the new Figo with cosmetic upgrades and a new body color (Yellow)?
