Ford India has increased prices of the Ford EcoSport between Rs. 22,000 and Rs. 38,000 depending on the variant, and it has also stopped taking bookings for some variants whose waiting period has crossed 270 days.
The price hike was expected as the launch price of the Ford EcoSport was an introductory price and also because of the present economic conditions, where import costs have gone up thanks to the falling rupee. It has revised prices with immediate effect, just barely three months after its launch, a strategy that Renault too had carried out with the Duster and Mahindra with the XUV500. The Ford EcoSport Ecoboost variants and the top-end diesel variants are the ones that have seen the steepest price hike owing to the larger percentage of imported components in them. The EcoBoost engine is entirely imported. Also read: Ford EcoSport vs MUVs, SUVs, sedans and hatches
Ford has seen unprecedented demand for the EcoSport, with waiting periods for some variants stretching up to nine months, forcing Ford to stop taking bookings for them in order to streamline production.
Some Ford dealers have stopped taking bookings of the EcoBoost variants, EcoSport automatic and the Ford EcoSport Titanium and Option pack diesel variants, as these have seen the maximum number of bookings. Bookings will remain on hold till Ford can deliver at least half the cars booked and streamline production to match demand.
