Ford has just unveiled the legendary pony car, the Mustang in India. The car will serve as a brand builder for Ford here. Imported into India as a completely built unit (CBU), the muscle car will be launched in the second quarter of 2016. It gets a 5.0 liter V8 petrol engine that puts out 435 Bhp and 542 Nm. A 6 speed automatic gearbox drives the rear wheels of the car. The car sits more squat, what with the body now wider and lower.
The Mustang that’s sold in India is the GT version. Internationally, the car’s also sold in drop top guise. Notably, the sixth generation of the car is the first to be made in right-hand-drive configuration, and this has allowed Ford to sell this legend in India. The 6th generation car has a host of improvements over its previous iteration, particularly in the suspension department, which ditches the rear live axle for a coil spring set up.
Other interesting features in the new Mustang include the electronic line-lock that deploys only the front brakes to allow the driver to warm up the rear tyres, launch control, multiple drive modes and an electric power steering whose sensitivity is adjustable. In terms of safety features, dual stage front airbags, front knee airbags, curtain airbags, ABS+EBD, electronic stability program and a tyre pressure monitoring system are standard.
