Come April 2013, all passenger cars will have compulsory fuel efficiency star labeling as seen in your house hold electrical appliances refrigerators and air conditioners.
Earlier fuel efficiency star labels were expected only in 2015. Also read: Cars in India to come with mileage labels
The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) will enforce this regulation in order to remind car manufacturers about reducing the average fuel consumption of models sold by them over the next 10 years.
“All passenger cars will have to be labeled for their fuel efficiency from April 1, 2013. All car manufacturers will have to comply with the regulatory norms,” Ajay Mathur, Director General, BEE was quoted as saying by a news agency.
As per BEE, the cars will have 5-star, 4-star, 3-star, 2-star and 1-star labels depending on the mileage. The rating has been made looking at the most fuel-efficient cars in each segment as the benchmark.
