Snapshot: General Motors India has begun teasing the Adra compact SUV concept, due to be shown at the upcoming 2014 Indian Auto Expo that kicks off tomorrow morning at 8 AM. The Adra compact SUV is a sub-4 meter concept that is aimed squarely at the Ford EcoSport. The Adra has been completely designed in-house by General Motors’ Technical Center at Bangalore, India.
Other details of the Adra will be revealed at the unveil which will happen in the General Motors pavilion at the Auto Expo. Considering what the competition has to offer, the SUV is likely to get both petrol and turbo diesel engine options.
General Motors’ 1.3 liter Small Diesel Engine (SDE), popularly known as the Fiat Multijet motor globally, could be a staple on the new compact SUV. The production version of the Adra compact SUV will address General Motors India’s long standing void in the fast growing compact SUV space.
With this development, the Trax compact SUV that General Motors sells in car markets across the world doesn’t seem primed for a debut in India. The 4.2 meter long Trax it seems, is destined for the developed markets of the world while the sub-4 meter Adra seems apt for Indian market and regulatory conditions.
The Adra will be the first real concept that General Motors has put together for the Indian Auto Expo. Production plans are unknown for now. Apart from the Adra, attractions at the General Motors Pavilion in the Auto Expo will include the likes of the Corvette and Camaro muscle cars.
Of particular interest to the Indian car market will be the facelifted Beat hatchback, which will be unveiled at the motor show. Apart from these show stoppers, General Motors’ Auto Expo plans include the showcasing of its existing range of products such as the Sail twins, the Tavera, the Enjoy MPV, Cruze sedan and the Captiva SUV.
