This tuned Skoda Rapid can reach 223 km/h [Video]

The bad roads of India, love for fuel economy and simply lack of enthusiasts work against the success of any high-performance car in India. Nonetheless, there are enthusiasts who take performance seriously and due to the lack of performance cars, they take the job on their own hands to re-tune the vehicles that are already available in the market. Here is a Skoda Rapid that has been tuned by Harmonixx Tuning, Bangalore and without a doubt, this is one of the most powerful Rapid sedans that you will come across in India.

From the outside, this Skoda Rapid looks subtle, something that the enthusiasts term as “Sleeper”. However, one push on the throttle will leave you surprised. The Skoda Rapid gets a lot of modifications and tuning job under the hood. It gets powered by the 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine and quite a few things have been added to it.

The major highlight among the modifications is Stage 1 ECU remap that increases the power output by 30 PS and torque output by 50 Nm. In all, the engine produces a maximum power of 140 PS with 300 Nm of peak torque. There are additional modifications that go into the car to support the extra power. To make sure that the engine gets enough air to burn the fuel, a new BMC performance air filter has been added. Together, the car can reach a top speed of 233 km/h as mentioned on the speedometer. The top speed of the car is electronically limited by the manufacturer to ensure safety. This is something that all the high-end and performance cars get. The upper limit may differ from car to car and depending on how capable the vehicle is to handle such situations.

The video the Skoda Rapid shows the car doing a speed of around 200 km/h on the digital speedometer. After a few seconds, it reaches the top speed of 233 km/h. The 1.5-litre diesel engine in this Rapid gets a 7-speed dual-clutch DSG automatic transmission. It sends the power to the front wheels of the sedan.

The cost? Well, the ECU remapping will cost around Rs 35,000 while the BMC high-performance filter costs around Rs 7,000. Apart from these changes, the modified Skoda Rapid also gets aftermarket Momo Massimo black alloy wheels with 200/50 low-profile Michelin Pilot Sport tyres. This may seem like a small change but tyres do add a lot of capability to the car and change the way it accelerates, brakes and handle on the roads. The tyre and aftermarket wheel set-up costs Rs 70,000. Other modifications in the car include the chrome removal package that removes all the chrome detailing and makes the vehicle look much sportier.
