Turbo petrols are getting bigger and bigger in India, and it’s only fitting that the luxury pack leads this race. Audi has dropped in a new base variant of the turbo petrol engined A3 sedan. One of the lowest priced, entry level luxury sedans in the country, the Audi A3 40 TFSI now starts at 25.5 lakh rupees, ex-showroom Delhi. For this kind of money, you get the “Premium” variant of the car.

The Audi A3 is powered by a 1.8 liter TFSI turbo petrol engine with 177 Bhp and 250 Nm on tap. This motor uses a 7 speed, twin clutch DSG transmission to turn the front wheels. Based on the MQB platform, the Audi A3 sedan is put together at the luxury car maker’s Aurangabad CKD assembly facility. The petrol version of the A3 is ARAI certified to deliver a mileage of 16.77 Kmpl.

The car sprints from nought to 100 Kph in 7.3 seconds, with top speed rated at over 200 Kph. In terms of features, the “Premium” variant of the A3 40 TFSI is quite stripped down. Apart from the regulation safety package that consists of 7 airbags, ABS, anti-slip regulation, electronic stabilization control and anti-theft wheel bolts, the car gets the lighting package and an electrically adjustable driver’s seat.

Other features standard on the A3 Premium sedan include the Audi Multimedia Interface (MMI), dual-zone climate control, rear AC vents, rear parking sensors and cruise control. The car is also sold with a turbo diesel engine option, with the tried and tested 2 liter TDI motor with 140 Bhp-320 Nm powered the diesel variants. The diesel engined range of the Audi A3 starts from 24.55 lakh rupees.

However, the petrol variants make more sense for those who drive about 1,000-1,500 kilometers a month. For the record, the Audi A3 is the least priced sedan in the German luxury sedan pack sold in India. The car is also available in convertible guise, but at a much higher price tag of about 45 lakh rupees.
