Hero Destini 125 launch date revealed: Activa 125 challenger

Hero Motocorp has revealed the launch date for its first 125cc offering. Named as Hero Destini 125, the company will unveil the scooter at a launch event scheduled on 22nd October, 2018. This will make the already hot 125 cc scooter segment a bit more happening, with the Destini locking horns with the Honda Activa 125, N Torq, Access 125 among others.

The Destini was first showcased at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo along with Maestro Edge 125. At that time, it was called as Duet 125 but now the company has rechristened the Honda Activa 125 challenger. The new Hero Destini 125 is based on the company’s smaller 110 cc offering, the Duet. However it now gets a new front apron with chrome accents along with more curvy body panels and overall design.

The 125 cc single-cylinder motor powering the Destini is also based on the 110 cc engine and has been tweaked to offer better low-end power for higher urban usability. The motor has been tuned to produce 8.7 Bhp 0f power and 10.2 Nm of peak torque available at 5000 rpm. Also, to maximize fuel efficiency, the Destini 125 will be the first Hero scooter to get idle-start-stop-system (i3S system).

The Hero Destini 125 will come with many other features including an optional front disc brake, Integrated Braking System (IBS), side stand indicator, service reminder, pass switch, external fuel filling among others. The scooter has been completely developed in-house at the company’s Centre of Innovation and Technology (CIT) in Jaipur. Hero has also readied the Maestro 125 scooter that is likely to offer more power and fun.

With the Destini 125, Hero aims towards the mature scooter buyer segment rather than youths. The simple yet elegant design along with more low end grunt and linear power delivery means that the Destini will be happy to tackle day to day traffic situations. Though it may be low on power than some of its competitors, Hero is likely to crease it out by positioning it very attractively. Also, Hero will also bring out the Maestro 125 sometime later that will be targeted at youths and will bring more power to the table. It will be interesting to see now that how much will the Honda Activa 125 get affected by the Destini, but that could be clear only after the launch.
