Hero teases Honda Activa 125-rivaling Duet 125 automatic scooter ahead of launch

Hero MotoCorp, the largest selling two-wheeler manufacturer in the country, will soon expand its automatic scooter range with the launch of the new Duet 125. The Hero Duet 125 is expected to cost roughly Rs 58,000. It will become a direct rival to the Honda Activa 125. Recently, the manufacturer teased its upcoming scooter, thereby hinting at an imminent launch.

The Hero Duet 125 made its public debut alongside the Maestro 125 at the Auto Expo 2018 in February this year. Akin to the Honda Activa 125, which is a more powerful version of the Activa 110, the Duet 125 is the bigger sibling of the Duet 110. Powering the Hero Duet is a 124.6cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled, four-stroke engine that benefits from Hero’s i3S idle start-stop technology. The motor outputs a maximum power of 8.7 bhp at 6,750 rpm and a peak torque of 10.2 Nm at 5,000 rpm. It comes mated to a Variomatic Drive CVT automatic. The i3S idle start-stop system switches off the engine automatically when the vehicle is idle for more than a few seconds. The engine comes back to life as soon as the system registers a throttle input. This is a fuel-saving feature that isn’t available on the Activa 125.

The upcoming Hero Duet 125 automatic scooter measures 1,830 mm in length, 726 mm in width, and 1,155 mm in height. The scooter has a wheelbase of 1,245 mm and a ground clearance of 155 mm. It tips the scales at 113 KGs and has a max. payload capacity of 130 KGs.

Suspension duties are taken care of by a set of telescopic forks up front and a single coil spring-type hydraulic shock absorber at the rear. The scooter gets 130 mm drum brakes at the front and rear wheels along with an Integrated Braking System. The Duet 125 rides on 90/100-10 section tubeless tires at the front and rear. Features list includes an LED tail lamp, external fuel filling cap, underseat storage compartment light, semi-digital speedo console, body-coloured rear view mirror, and mobile charging port. In terms of design and styling, the Hero Duet 125 i3S looks like a slightly grown up and more premium version of the Duet 110.

Other than rivalling the Honda Activa 125, the Hero Duet 125 will also lock horns with the likes of TVS Ntorq 125, Suzuki Burgman Street 125, Suzuki Access 125, and Aprilia SR 125.
