Indian SUVs are crazy. Maruti Alto and Maruti Dzire, where there is a lot of enthusiasm in the car market, there are many SUVs that have become quite popular in the country and still entering the best cell. Let’s take a look at today’s 10 old SUVs that you can get at the lowest price of the newest Maruti WagonR LXi (Rs 4.5 lakhs).
Maruti Gypsy is one of the most famous SUVs in India. This is a very basic SUV and is not even more expensive. But in the old car market, its price is much lower than the new SUVs. Gypsy was first launched with a 1.0-liter petrol engine and later added a G13B MPFI motor. In Gypsy you get four-wheel drive and its off-roading experience is also quite good. You can get it in the old car market for 1.5 lakh rupees.
Mitsubishi Pajero SFX
At the beginning of this century, Mitsubishi Pajero SFX was the most ambitious SUVs available in the country. Today, Pajero SFX has not been able to do so and is available at a very cheap price in the old car market. Street Presence of Pajero SFX is quite high and has bullet-proof 2.8-liter, four-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine which produces 118 bhp power and 292 nm torque. This SUV gives you four-wheel drive. You can get this car up to 4.5 lakh rupees in good condition.
Old Hyundai Tucson
Where the price of the new Hyundai Tucson starts at around Rs 18 lakhs in the market, you can get the old version of it in good condition in almost 4.5 lakh rupees. In it you get a 2.0-liter diesel engine which produces 122 bhp power and 245 nm torque.
Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara
Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara was the first attempt to entice the small SUVs of the unimportant emperor of Indian roads and the largest car manufacturer. But this car could not attract more people to itself. Grand Vitara was available in two petrol engine options – 2.0-liter and 2.4-liter. There is also a choice of four-wheel drive.
Honda CR-V was India’s first small premium SUV. It has a good sale in India and that is why it is easily available in the old car market. Today you will get a decent second-generation CR-V in a very good condition compared to a new Wagon R. Like the Grand Vitara, CR-V is available in two petrol variants – 2.0-liter and 2.4-liter.
Chevrolet Captiva was launched to compete with CR-V. It has a 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine, which aims to attract SUV buyers. Where it was a little successful in the beginning, later it was tough in the market competition. The company has replaced it with Trailblazer. After the Chevrolet brand’s useless performance in India, this SUV’s re-cell value was declining. Captiva had the Powerful 2.0-liter engine. You can now get this car at an extremely expensive price in the old car market.
Mahindra Scorpio is a popular SUV which was an easy choice for small SUV buyers in India. These 7-seater also offer excellent performance on tough to hard roads and its engine is quite powerful. You can buy this car from an entry-level Maruti Suzuki WagonR market at a much lower price.
Tata Safari was a popular SUV that did not work much after Mahindra Scorpio came into the market. In spite of this, Safari is still a great option for Indian roads and its mileage is also quite good. The four-wheel drive version of this car is great for off-roading. You can buy second-hand Tata Safari at the cost of any entry-level hatchback.
Many of you may have forgotten this SUV yet, but this is a great option, which was the first SUV of Nissan India in India. It has a 2.2-liter engine which produces 136 bhp power and 314 nm torque. This is a 5-seater SUV.
Hyundai Terracan SUV was a flagship offer in the early days of Hyundai in India. It was quite a comfortable car. There was a 2.9-liter diesel motor engine which produced 148 bhp power and 343 nm torque. There was a four-wheel drive system in it. Terracan came to India much earlier than its time and therefore could not record some special sales.
What are the dangers?
These cars, where there are some good options to buyers in the market, it is very important to take care of some things before buying them. First, it is possible that some old cars are not legally valid in some parts of the country. You can not use a diesel car more than 10 years or a petrol car more than 15 years for the sake of retirement. Secondly, these SUVs are quite reliable and affordable but some of these parts are very expensive. It is easy to maintain a Gypsy or Scorpio but it can not be said about Tucson or Terracan. Apart from this, the availability of these parts can also be a problem as many of these companies have stopped production of these cars. In this case, you may have to use local parts. Parts of the Maruti Suzuki Grand can be easily found, but in the case of Captiva or X-trail it can not be said.
