Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India (HMSI) has launched the latest version of the highly popular Activa automatic scooter. Dubbed the Activa 5G, the latest iteration of this gearless scooter was unveiled at the 2018 Auto Expo. It has been launched in India at a price of Rs. 52,460, ex-showroom, New Delhi. Bookings for the Activa 5G are now open and deliveries of the automatic scooter will start soon.
The key changes on the Activa 5G are cosmetic. There’s a new LED headlamp up front that also gets integrated daytime LED running lights. The chrome garnishes on the front apron and 3D badges are other key changes on the scooter. The Activa, however, retains its conservative styling and the conventional design. The all-metal body, a key selling point of the Activa 5G, has also been retained. Two new colors – Dazzle Yellow Metallic and Pearl Spartan Red – are now offered on the scooter.-
Other changes on the new scooter include a new instrument cluster, which is now a part-analog-part-digital unit. The speedometer continues to be shown in analog mode while the fuel indicator and odometer go digital. A service reminder and an ECO mode that lets riders maximize fuel efficiency are also a part of the revised instrument cluster. The seat lock-unlock feature is now integrated into the scooter’s ignition key slot, and there is a new double hook to secure more luggage on the footboard.
Mechanically, the Activa 5G is the same as the 4G model, which isn’t a bad thing if you consider the high smoothness and reliability this motor offers. The 110cc, four-stroke engine continues to make 8 Bhp of peak power, along with a peak torque figure of 9 Nm. A CVT automatic gearbox is standard. Other cycle parts of the Activa 5G include a leading link suspension for the front wheel, a monoshock for the rear, and drum brakes on both wheels that feature a combi-braking system. Honda offers tubeless tires as standard on the Activa 5G.
