Honda Activa and Hero Splendor are two of the best-selling two-wheelers in the Indian market. Most of the time, these two products, from their respective brands, fight it out for the top position in the market. In the month of June, Honda Activa became the best selling two-wheeler in India.
Honda Scooter and Motorcycles in India sold a total of 2.92 lakh units of the Activa scooter, while Hero MotoCorp sold 2.78 lakh units of the entry-level commuter motorcycle, the Hero Splendor. Hero is the world’s largest motorcycle manufacturer and the Hero Splendor is the best-selling product from the brand.
Earlier this year, India overtook China to become the world’s largest two-wheeler market. The market is controlled majorly by Hero MotoCorp and Japanese manufacturer Honda. Other major manufacturers like Bajaj, TVS and Royal Enfield also control a percentage of sales in the Indian market.
Honda Activa was the undisputed leader on the sales chart for about two years, in India, before the Hero Splendor displaced the scooter from the top spot. The highly fuel-efficient Hero Splendor attracts a lot of buyers in India. On the other hand, Honda Activa’s convenience makes it a popular product in the market. The Activa caters to both male and female customers, while the Splendor buyers majorly consist of males.
The two-wheeler market is on a constant upswing and sales rose 9.19 per cent in the month of May. A total of 1,85,093 units of two-wheelers were sold in the month of May 2018. Other popular products in the top 10 selling products include the Hero HF Deluxe, Hero Passion, Honda CB Shine, Bajaj Pulsar, TVS XL Super, Bajaj CT 100, Hero Glamour and TVS Jupiter.
Honda launched the facelifted Activa earlier this year. The Activa 5G gets a LED headlamp, which is a first in the segment. The scooter is powered by a 110-cc engine that produces a maximum of 8 Bhp and 9 Nm. Honda also launched the new Activa-i and Activa 125 in the market that makes the whole Activa series quite fresh.
