Honda Activa Special Edition launched to commemorate scooter’s 20th anniversary in India

Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India (HMSI) has just launched a special edition Activa to commemorate the automatic scooter’s 20th anniversary in India. Developed specifically for the Indian market as Honda’s first two wheeler here, the Activa was first launched in 2001. Ever since, it’s been a best seller for the brand, going from strength to strength. Till date, Honda has sold a whopping 2.2 crore units of the Activa automatic scooter in India, making it the highest selling scooter ever in Indian automotive history. Such as been the Honda Activa’s success that nearly every automatic scooter sold here is called the ‘Activa’ by the layman.

The special edition version of the 6th generation Honda Activa comes with the following features,

  • Special Matte Mature Brown with matching rear grab-rails
  • ’20th Anniversary’ and golden Activa logos on the all-metal body
  • Sticker stripes on the front apron
  • Blacked out steel wheels

The 20th anniversary edition Honda Activa is offered in two variants:  Standard and Deluxe. The Standard variant is priced at Rs. 66,816 while the Deluxe variant is priced at Rs. 68,316, ex-showroom India. Both variants of the Honda Activa are mechanically similar with the Deluxe variant adding an LED headlamp to the equation. Commenting on the new launch, Atsushi Ogata, Managing Director, President and CEO at HMSI, had this to say about the Activa, which is in its sixth generation in the Indian market,

The legend was born 20 years ago, when Honda realized The Power of Dreams of India with its debut model – Activa. Since then, every new generation of Honda Activa has introduced Indian riders to advance global technologies ahead of time. Celebrating Indian customers love and trust on Activa – the true gold standard of unisex family commute, we are delighted to launch the special 20th Anniversary edition of Activa 6G.

The Honda Activa 6G is powered by a  109.51 cc four stroke, single cylinder engine that generates 7.8 PS of peak power and 8.8 Nm of peak torque. The air-cooled engine gets fuel injection in order to meet the stringent Bharat Stage 6 (BS6) emission norms.  Known for its smoothness and refinement across the rev range, the Honda Activa 6G’s engine is also very fuel efficient, with mileage rated at 60 Kmpl. Key features on the automatic scooter include a full-LED headlight, external fuel filling cap, engine start/stop switch, 12-inch wheels and telescopic front suspension. The change in wheels and suspension makes the Activa 6G a good option even on bad roads.

The Honda Activa 6G is marketed as a unisex scooter mainly for use on city streets. The CVT automatic gearbox that the scooter is equipped with makes it very easy to ride. The large footwell allows riders to carry everyday items including daily groceries and other sundries. The Activa 6G also has a capacious under-seat storage that can fit a half face helmet. All in all, this is a scooter that has redefined the Indian two wheeler landscape. In years to come, the Honda Activa brand is likely to get even stronger with constant innovations.
