The Honda Activa is clearly India’s favourite scooter and good mileage is a major reason why this automatic scooter sells so well. Soon, the Activa will become 10 % more fuel efficient, and this information comes straight from Minoru Kato, the CEO of Honda Two Wheelers India.
The Japanese two wheeler giant is working on a new engine platform for its 110cc and 125cc automatic scooters and commuter motorcycles. The new engines will meet Bharat Stage 6 emission norms, and for this, will have fuel injection. Mr. Kato has revealed that the company is targeting a 10 % increase in fuel efficiency for the new engine platform.
What this means is that the Honda Activa BS6 will be about 10 % more fuel efficient than the current Activa 5G. Lower emissions will naturally increase fuel efficiency as the engine will have to be more efficient, burning fuel more cleanly so that it emits lesser.
The upcoming BS6 emission norms, which are a lot more stringent than the present BS4 norms are therefore expected to make vehicles more fuel efficient in India. Mr. Kato has also revealed that the new engine family will deliver better performance as well.
Here’s exactly what he said,
Regarding new features I can’t elaborate on it. But thanks to BS-VI regulation such as fuel injection PGMFI our new engine platform will deliver new customer value not only in mileage but performance-wise too. It will be seen on 110cc and 125cc scooter and motorcycles. At least 10 percent increase in mileage can be expected, that is our target.
Currently, the Honda Activa is offered with two engine options – a 110cc unit and a 125cc unit. While the 110cc engine powers the Activa 5G, Activa-i, the Dio, the NAVi, the Cliq and the Aviator, the 125cc engine is offered on the likes of Activa 125 and Grazia models.
