Japanese carmaker Honda launched the second-gen Amaze compact sedan in India in May 2018. Now, Honda has announced that it has sold 50,000 units of the Amaze in just five months. The Amaze is the fastest car from the Japanese manufacturer to reach that sales milestone.
The second-generation Honda Amaze was launched in May at an aggressive starting price of just Rs 5.59 lakhs ex-showroom (Delhi). The price tag meant that the Amaze was more affordable at launch than its closest rival, the Maruti Dzire whih helped the sedan attract more than 20 percent, first-time buyers. The Amaze was well received across markets with 40 percent sales from Tier 1 cities and 30 percent each from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.
Speaking on the success of the second-gen Amaze, Mr Makoto Hyoda, Director, Sales and Marketing, Honda Cars India Ltd said,
“The overall concept of All New Amaze was to develop a one-class-above sedan for Indian family use that exceeds the expectations of customers in the compact sedan segment. The response to the car with 50,000 sales in 5 months is overwhelming. The advanced CVT technology has found very strong acceptance among customers with 30 percent of Amaze customers opting for automatic variants in petrol and diesel.”
The second-gen Honda Amaze, unlike its predecessor that was based on the Brio hatchback, is built on an all-new platform. The Amaze compact sedan is offered with two engine options – a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel.
The petrol powered Amaze’s engine produces 89 Bhp @ 6,000 rpm and 110 Nm of torque @ 4,800 rpm. The diesel engine, on the other hand, produces 99 Bhp @ 3,600 rpm and 200 Nm of torque @ 1,750 rpm. Both the petrol and diesel variants of the Amaze come paired with either a 5-speed manual or a CVT automatic gearbox. The petrol Amaze returns a mileage of 19 km/l while the diesel is a lot more frugal returning a mileage of 27.4 km/l when paired to the manual gearbox.
The Honda Amaze is sold in India in 12 different variant options with prices ranging from Rs 5.80 lakhs to Rs 9.10 lakhs (all ex-showroom, Delhi). The sedan is offered with best-in-class 3 years/ unlimited kilometres warranty and comes packed with a host of features including a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cruise control, reversing camera, paddle shifters for the CVT gearbox, keyless go with push-button start and automatic climate control along with standard safety kit like dual airbags, ABS, ISOFIX mounts for child seats and parking sensors. The powertrain options and features along with the Amaze’s striking design have made it irresistible for buyers and compact sedan has been setting the sales charts on fire over the past few months and has accounted for over 50 percent of all Honda cars sold in India between May and September 2018.
