Honda City is one of the most popular mid-size sedans in its segment. The car has been around for a very long time and we currently have the fifth generation of this sedan in India. Earlier this year, Honda also launched a strong hybrid version of the City sedan in the market which is more fuel efficient than the regular petrol version. It competes with cars like Maruti Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, Skoda Slavia and Volkswagen Virtus. Volksagen Virtus is one of the most powerful sedans in the segment and we have seen several videos of the same online. Here we have a drag race video, where both Honda City hybrid and Volswagen Virtus GT are seen competing against each other.
The video has been uploaded by Pratham Shokeen on his YouTube channel. In this video, vlogger talks to the owner about the technical specifications of the Honda City hybrid. It is powered by a 1.5 litre, three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that runs on Atkinson cycle. It uses a petrol engine as well as an electric motor to move the car around. It generates a combined power of 126 Ps and 253 Nm of peak torque. The volkswagen Virtus GT is powered by a 1.5 litre turbocharged petrol engine that generates 150 Ps and 250 Nm of peak torque. Honda City hybrid is available with an e-CVT gearbox and the Virtus gets a 7-speed DSG.

They prepare for the race and line up the vehicle on the start line. They chose a wide road for race that was closed for construction. Vlogger was driving his Volkswagen Virtus and his friend was driving the Honda City. The traction control and eco mode was turned off in the Honda City hybrid while the Virtus was in Drive mode with traction control on. On paper Virtus was more powerful and the vlogger wanted to see if Virtus can still win the race, if City was given an advantage. The race started and the vlogger intentionally launched Virtus a bit late. Honda City went off the start line immediately and there was a huge gap between both the sedans.
Initially it felt like the City was going to win the race. After few meters, Virtus started picking up speed and slowly started catching up. At around 110-115 kmph mark, Volkswagen Virtus overtook City and the gap between both the cars started to increase. Virtus won the first round without any issues. After this, they prepare for the second round and for this round, vlogger asked a person sitting in the City to come and sit with him. This way, City was lighter than Virtus and had more advantage. Just like the first round, settings in the car remained same. The race started and Honda City moved off the line quickly. The Virtus gradually took off and caught with the City at around 130 kmph mark.
Once again, Volkswagen Virtus won the race. Till 100 kmph mark, Honda City is winning the race but, after that, the electric motor completely runs out and the car starts working as a regular petrol car. This gives Virtus advantage and that is why it can easily overtake City, even at triple digit speeds. In the last round, the Virtus was in Sport mode and the vlogger turned off traction control too. This time, vlogger launched the car properly and from the start, Virtus was in the lead and won the race. Volkswagen Virtus was announced as the winner of the race.
