Honda Civic to all-new Toyota Corolla Altis: 8 new, upcoming sedans for India

People generally consider sedans to be more sophisticated and luxurious than SUVs and hatchbacks. This is also right to a large extent. They offer luxurious interiors, feature rich equipment list, have a large boot area and are often good looking. The coming time will see many of these long beauties being launched in India, some of which have been long anticipated. So here are eight sedans that will be launched in the coming time.

Hyundai Xcent

The Hyundai Xcent will get a generation upgrade in early 2020. The compact sedan, which is known for its excellent interiors, will be based on its hatchback sibling, the Grand i10. However, the next-gen Xcent will look bigger and will be designed in a way to not look like a hatch with a boot strapped on. The car could also get longer rear doors and proper sedan-like proportions, albeit length will still be under 4 meters.  It will come with many new features which could include a floating infotainment system along with fast charge USB socket.

Tata Tigor EV

The Tigor EV will be Tata’s attempt to make an electric car for daily use. It has been already made available for some government departments along with few major corporations. The Tigor EV gets powered by a 30kW motor mated to a single-speed automatic transmission. The motor runs on a 216Ah, 72V battery, which can be charged up to 80 percent in six hours and also comes with an optional fast charging system reducing charging time to just 1.5 hours. The Tata Tigor EV has a total range of 130km on a single charge along with a top speed of 100 km/h.

Honda City

The Honda City is among the most popular C segment sedans in India and has been on sale since a long time. Honda plans to launch the new Honda City by early 2020, though some reports also suggest a late 2019 launch. The new City will also come with a mild hybrid drivetrain. The design of the new car will carry forward the City family DNA and will embody them with the latest technology. The 1.5 litre i-VTEC petrol engine will come paired with an electric motor while the 1.5 litre i-DTEC diesel engine will continue to perform its duty without much change.

Hyundai Verna

Hyundai will launch the mid-life facelift of the Verna in India by the second half of 2020. The sedan will sport major changes both in terms of design as well as performance performance. The facelifted Verna will see the arrival of new 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines. The new diesel engine will be slightly less powerful than the current 1.6-litre unit but will meet the more stringent BS-VI emission norms that go into effect in 2020. The petrol engine is expected to be future proofed for the arrival of a hybrid setup, which could arrive a few years later down the line.

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz 1.5

Maruti Suzuki is working on an all new 1.5 litre diesel engine that will power a number of vehicles in its lineup. However, the first car to get this engine will be the Ciaz,  which is currently powered by an ageing 1.3 litre diesel engine. The all-new 1.5-litre engine gets a 1,498cc of displacement with in-line 4-cylinder set-up. It will be known as the DDiS 225 engine and will produce a maximum power of 94 along with a peak torque of 225 Nm. Apart from the Ciaz, it will also power the new Ertiga as well as the upcoming Maruti compact SUV that will rival the Hyundai Creta.

Hyundai Elantra

The facelifted Hyundai Elantra has been launched in the international markets since some time now. The company will launch the sedan in India by mid 2019. Design wise, it gets a new grille, new headlamps, revised bumper, new sharp tail lamps along with new fog lamp housings. On the inside, the new Elantra will come with a new 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, updated upholstery and rearview camera with cross traffic alert.

The tenth generation Honda Civic is has been long awaited in India and finally the company will launch the car in March this year. The petrol variants would get the 1.8-litre engine that is expected to generate around 140 PS of maximum power. The diesel engine will be a 1.6-litre EarthDreams engine that is expected to produce around 120 PS in the Civic. Both the engines will get automatic transmissions as an option. The all-new Civic is also expected to get features like a sunroof, 6-airbags, ABS with EBD, wireless charging, leather seats, collision warning, cruise control and more.

The 2019 Toyota Corolla will be launched by mid 2019. It is an all-new car based on the all-new TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform and it looks extremely aggressive with the new design changes done to the exterior. The all-new Corolla Altis is expected to get a hybrid system in India. The power and torque figures of the same have not been revealed yet but it is expected to be around 145 PS and 180 Nm. It would be offered in both manual and i-CVT automatic transmission options.
