Honda Elevate: New spy shots leaked from Japan ahead of mid-sized SUV’s official debut on June 6

After spending several years on the sidelines, Honda Cars India, the Indian subsidiary of the Japanese automotive giant Honda Motor Co., is finally entering the highly competitive mid-size SUV segment. The company will take on this challenge with the all-new Elevate, which is set to make its official debut on June 6. Test mules of this forthcoming SUV have been spotted testing on multiple occasions in India, and just a few days before its launch, another test mule was spotted testing in Japan, revealing additional key details about the upcoming SUV.

From the pictures of the latest test mule spotted in Japan, it can be noted that the Elevate will have some strikingly similar aesthetics to the Honda WR-V SUV, which was recently launched in the Indonesian market. Firstly, the Elevate will boast a similar-looking upright body stance like the WR-V. At the front, it will feature a muscular-looking front-end, which could include Honda’s signature grille with a jewel chrome finish. The headlamps will most likely be all LED units, giving it a sleeker and more aggressive appearance. The muscular bumper at the front will add to its upright stance and will come equipped with fog lamps and, hopefully, a silver skid plate.

Another picture of the side profile of the Elevate test mule was shared, showing the SUV with pleasing proportions. According to reports, these proportions have been finalized with the Indian market and its buyers’ preferences in mind. It is worth noting that Honda typically does not test its Indian products in its home market of Japan. However, the Elevate is likely the first model designed for India but being tested in Japan for global markets as well. Returning to the spy shots, the side profile of the car also reveals similar alloy wheels to those found on the Honda City sedan in India. These alloy wheels were finished in black, but according to reports, they may be offered in black or diamond-cut finishes for top-spec variants. Lower-spec variants might come with a silver finish.

Lastly, one of the clearest spy shots of the rear of this upcoming SUV was also shared. The new rear spy shot indicates that it will likely borrow the rear lights from the Indonesian-spec WR-V. These taillights will feature an LED part on the top, extending to the side of the car, and will be a two-part light. The reverse lights and turn indicators will probably use halogen bulbs. The spy shots also confirm the presence of Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) and a 360-degree camera setup, which can be seen on one of the wing mirrors.

Honda recently announced and confirmed that the Elevate, along with all forthcoming Honda cars in India, will come equipped with Honda Sensing Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). For those who are unaware, the Honda Sensing ADAS is the brand’s suite of safety technologies designed to enhance driver awareness and mitigate potential hazards on the road. It incorporates various sensors and cameras to provide a comprehensive range of features aimed at improving driving safety.

The Honda Elevate is anticipated to be offered with the 1.5-liter petrol engine seen in the Honda City mid-size sedan. This engine produces 150 Nm of torque and 121 PS of maximum power. However, it has been reported that Honda may adjust the power characteristics to better suit the SUV form factor. The SUV will likely have the same CVT or 6-speed manual transmission options as the Honda City, depending on the variant. Safety features such as Honda’s LaneWatch system, twin airbags, ABS with EBD, and a rearview camera will be offered with the upcoming SUV on June 6.
