Honda working on Maruti Brezza rivaling compact SUV: Launch planned for 2021

Sub-4 meter compact SUV segment has been an area where the cars are selling like hot cakes. It currently comprises of popular models like Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300 and Ford EcoSport in the segment. All these models are popular because brands are offering an SUV like experience to the buyer with loads of features at a reasonable price point. Amidst this, Japanese car manufacturer Honda is also planning to launch an all-new sub-4 meter compact SUV globally. Honda is expected to launch their all-new sub-4 meter compact SUV in this highly competitive segment by 2021 in India.

Honda has not tried their luck in the sub-4 meter compact SUV segment so far. They have a great line up of cars starting from compact sedan like Amaze to their flagship SUV Honda CR-V. Something that currently sits near to a sub-4 meter SUV area is Honda WR-V which is a cross hatchback based on their premium hatchback Jazz. It is doing pretty well in terms of numbers because of its rugged looks and styling.

The upcoming sub-4 meter compact SUV will be an all-new product and will be available not just in India but in International market as well. As per the report from Indian Auto Honda is likely to unveil this new product globally by mid-2020 and will make it’s way to the Indian shores later in 2021. According to the report, the all-new Brezza rival compact SUV will be based on Honda Amaze’s platform as it is light-weight and flexible enough to accommodate different body styles in it without compromising on the safety part.

Design-wise it is expected to look bold with Honda’s signature chrome grille at the front with probably all-LED headlamps and fog lamps. It is likely to look a lot like the existing WR-V but only a bit more taller to give it that proper SUV-ish stance. The upcoming compact SUV is likely to get a 1.0 litre turbo petrol and 1.5 litre hybrid petrol internationally. But in India it is expected to get a 1.2 litre petrol and a 1.5 litre diesel, the same that we have seen in Amaze. With competition already very high in this segment, Honda is expected to offer a host of features like sunroof, cruise control in this new compact SUV at a competitive price. Currently, the only affordable SUV-ish offering from Honda is the WR-V, whose sales are dipping thanks to high competition.
