‘Honest’ review of new Mahindra Roxor from US: ‘Awesome li’l machine for doing Jeep stuff!’

The Mahindra Roxor has been making a lot of news in the United States, where it recently went on sale to rival the likes of the Polaris RZR. Basically, the Roxor is an off-road vehicle that is based on the Thar that’s on sale in India. First reviews of the new vehicle have started pouring in on Youtube. Seen below is one such video that shows Alex Simmons, a reviewer, talking about his experience with the new vehicle. Initial reviews of the Roxor look very positive. We believe this will help Mahindra establish itself quite well in the off-road and recreational vehicle market of the States.

Alex seems to be really impressed with the smoothness that the Roxor offers. He makes it very clear that the Diesel engine of the Roxor is a very smooth unit and even toggling between the gears feels very smooth and positive. Furthermore, he is very happy with the performance of the turbocharged Diesel engine, especially due to the torque on offer. He feels that the traditional suspension setup with leaf springs and solid axles suits this car but those used to new-age SUVs will find the ride to be a bit bouncy. He also feels that the Roxor feels really well-built and is a really capable machine off the road. He feels that the Roxor is perfect for all those who are passionate about old-school Jeeps. The only negative he can think about is the 45 mph speed limit that the Roxor comes restricted to. However, he’s hopeful that soon there will be many aftermarket solutions to bypass the electronic speed limiter.

The Roxor is powered by the same 2.5-liter turbocharged Diesel engine that powers the Thar. For the Roxor, the engine offers a maximum power of 62 bhp along with a peak torque of 180 Nm. It comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission. You also get 2WD and 4WD modes that can be selected through a 2-speed manual transfer case. The Mahindra Roxor isn’t legal for use on the public roads. Hence, priced at roughly USD 15,000 (approx Rs 9 lakh), the Mahindra Roxor looks like a pretty expensive option, especially in the Indian context of things. However, the reviewer in the above video seems to be really very happy with this Mahindra. He repeatedly talks about his plans of buying one of these. It feels nice to see a Mahindra product getting such positive reviews in the US.
