Hyundai India has launched the Aura CNG in the new top-end trim. The South Korean brand now offers the Aura CNG in the S and SX trims. The SX variant of the Hyundai Aura is new top-end trim powered by the CNG engine option. It gets a price tag of Rs 8.56 lakh, ex-showroom.

The new Hyundai Aura SX CNG is available with additional features. It gets a new 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment head unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The new trim also adds steering-mounted controls, electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs, a cooled glove box and new 15-inch dual-tone alloy wheels.

The Hyundai Aura CNG gets powered by a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine. It generates a maximum power of 68 Bhp at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 95 Nm at 4,000 rpm on CNG. There is the option of only a five-speed manual transmission.

With the rising fuel prices in India, manufacturers are hoping that the popularity of CNG vehicles will catch on. Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai and Tata Motors are currently the only brands to offer factory-fitted CNG options with the vehicles. With the stringent rules and emission norms, most small cars are not offered diesel engines anymore.

That is where the CNG options can serve as an extra option to the customers.

Hyundai Aura diesel discontinued

Earlier this year, Hyundai removed the option to book the Aura diesel from the website and subsequently discontinued the variant. The diesel variant was not a very popular choice among the customers either.

The 1.2-litre diesel engine is the smallest oil burner in Hyundai India’s lineup of powertrains and replaced the ageing 1.1-litre three-cylinder diesel engine a few years ago in the Grand i10 and Xcent. This engine was available with both the transmission options of 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT in both Grand i10 Nios and Aura, with the maximum power and torque outputs of 75 PS and 190 Nm respectively.

The discontinuation of diesel variants of Grand i10 Nios and Aura means that the most affordable diesel-powered car from Hyundai is now the i20 premium hatchback. The Hyundai i20 is offered with a 1.5-litre diesel engine, which produces 100 PS of power and 240 Nm of torque. While this engine is shared with the Hyundai Venue in the same state of tune, this engine is also available in a higher state of tune – 115 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque – in more premium Hyundai offerings like Verna and Creta.
