Hyundai launched their mid-size SUV Creta in Indian market, back in 2015. The car became a huge success and was one of the most popular SUV in the segment. Even after many years, the first-generation Creta held the top position in the sales chart. History seems to be repeating. Earlier this year, Hyundai launched the next-generation Creta in the market. The Creta looks entirely different from the older version and looks a bit more premium and futuristic than before. The Kia Seltos, which was launched last year proved to be a competitor for the previous generation Creta and managed to be one the top of the chart for some time. But now, the next-gen Hyundai Creta has taken back the crown and is once again the best selling SUV in the segment beating the Kia Seltos by a solid margin.
SUVs are quite popular in India and they hold up to 26 percent share of the total cars sold in India. Hyundai Creta is without any doubt the most popular SUV not just in its segment but across all segments. Hyundai sold a total of 11,758 units of Creta in August 2020. The next best selling SUV in the segment is Kia Seltos with 10,655 units in August. Maruti Brezza is a sub-4 meter compact SUV which is cheaper than Creta but, even then it could not match the sheer popularity of Hyundai Creta. Maruti Suzuki only managed to sell 6,903 units of the Brezza last month.

As mentioned above, Creta secured the top position and Seltos managed the second spot. Other SUVs that managed to find a spot in the chart are Hyundai Venue (8,267 units), Maruti Vitara Brezza (6,903 units) and Tata Nexon (5,179 units). There are various factors that have helped Hyundai Creta become India’s best selling SUV. One among them is the features. Hyundai Creta is offered with a long list of features that no other manufacturer in the segment offers.
It looks premium on the outside and has features like wireless phone charging, ventilated seats, panoramic sunroof, air purifier and so on. Other factor is the price which starts at Rs 9.99 lakh for base E trim. Hyundai Creta is available with three different engine options – one diesel and two petrol. The 1.5 litre diesel engine is available with a manual and automatic transmission option. Majority of buyers opt for the diesel version. The 1.5 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine gets manual and CVT gearbox option and the 1.4 litre turbo petrol engine option is available with a 7-speed DCT gearbox only.
