Hyundai customer care says Veloster coming soon

The Hyundai Veloster sports coupe is quite eye-catching, and now Hyundai customer care wants to net a few customers for it as well. The car is being displayed at various Hyundai dealers – the latest being Capital Hyundai, Noida. The company’s customer care is taking inquiries about the car.

On its Facebook page, Hyundai India has asked potential customers to call a customer care number – 98735-64645 – for details about the Veloster, and that’s what we did as well. Hyundai’s customer care says the car is going to be launched soon, but was cagey with other details. Customer care was more interested in collecting details of potential customers than divulging additional details of the car.

Nevertheless, this is an interesting exercise by Hyundai dealers. The Veloster was showcased at the Auto Expo 2012 to gauge visitor reactions and build a case for a potential launch in India. This campaign at Hyundai dealerships appears to be an extension of the same, where Hyundai, by showcasing the Veloster is trying to get customers to walk into dealerships. This could result in some up-selling to the Sonata or lateral selling to the Elantra as well – dealers will resort to anything to get customers to walk in these days.

But if the reactions to the Veloster are significant enough, Hyundai may consider launching the car in India soon.

The Veloster is seen as the “poor” man’s sports car. It is a two-door, four-seater coupe, powered by a 1.6 litre petrol engine that puts out a modest 138 bhp of power. If it does come to India, it will most likely be fully imported, which would push up its price to around Rs. 20 lakh. If the car is assembled or made in India, it would be priced in Hyundai Elantra territory – making it an “affordable” sports car.
