Hyundai will be developing a new platform. It is called E-GMP or Electric Global Modular Platform. There will be some modified platforms in India as well. The new electric vehicles will be based on these new platforms.
Because E-GMP is an all-new platform and is made specifically for electric vehicles. It will have its benefits. For instance, there will be no transmission tunnel so it will have a flat floor, there will be an ample amount of space in the interior, and the dashboard design will be slim. We have already seen all of this in the IONIQ 5 which is very cleverly packaged. It has oodles of space for its occupants. The wheels of the vehicle are also positioned on the corners of the body.

Hyundai says E-GMP will be developed on 4 pillars:
Modularity: The platform will support various body styles and sizes. So, Hyundai will be able to use it for making compact sedans, compact SUVs, SUVs, compact SUVs and there might be a small micro SUV. The battery size can also be changed depending on the vehicle that the manufacturer is developing.
Reliability: The platform will use Ultra High Strength Steet, the batteries will be mounted low so that the centre of gravity is low and the batteries will be mounted on 8 points.
Usability: Because it is a dedicated platform for electric vehicles, there will be no transmission tunnel, it will have ample space, a sliding console and a second-row that would have a sliding function.
Performance: The maximum battery capacity of the E-GMP platform is 77.4 kWh which translates to around 480 kilometres of driving range. The platform supports 2-wheel drive as well as 4-wheel drive.
Infrastructure
Hyundai is also working on improving the electric infrastructure. The customers would get a home charging facility, there will be public charging stations set up, chargers will be available at Hyundai’s dealerships and the manufacturer will offer 24 X 7 roadside assistance for peace of mind.
