Hyundai Elite i20 has been a well-known vehicle in the Indian market. It was one of the first premium hatchbacks to be launched in India and is currently in its second generation in the Indian market. The Elite i20 takes on the likes of Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Honda Jazz in the Indian market and is well-known for its looks, quality and features. The car was introduced in 2014 and currently, Hyundai is in its end of the lifecycle as Hyundai is working on the all-new model. However, even after five years of its introduction in the Indian market, the second-generation Hyundai Elite i20 remains one of the best-selling cars in the segment. Reason? Well, there are many. To get to know the premium hatchback – Elite i20 better, we have inducted it in our long-term fleet and here are the details.
Date of arrival: 22nd June
Odo Reading at arrival: 16,512 km
Current odometer reading: 17,465 km
Fuel economy (indicated): 19.5 km/l
After testing vehicles like Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Honda City and more, this is the first-ever premium hatchback in our long-term fleet. The Hyundai Elite i20 reaches the sales figure of almost 10,000 units per month, which is extremely good for a vehicle from this segment. Our initial impression of the Hyundai Elite i20 is quite exciting and even though it misses out on certain features when compared to the recently launched Hyundai Venue, the Elite i20 does have its own charm.
Even after half a decade of its existence in the Indian market, the Hyundai Elite i20 manages to turn heads on the roads. In our case, the beautiful Passion Orange colour does the charm for us and attract most of the eyeballs on the roads. Nonetheless, the Elite i20 does not looks aged, it still seems like a fresh face because of its design.
What’s more? Well, the cabin feels pretty loaded except for a few features that are missing like the cruise control. The Elite i20 offers a high-quality cabin with the dual-tone dashboard. The touchscreen infotainment system offers features like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and the music system will satisfy most of the customers but the audiophiles may find it an underperformer. Nonetheless, the Elite i20 is a complete package and we are yet to test the comfort the on the long journeys. But you will not have to wait for long to know about it as we head to Jaipur with the elegant Elite i20 this weekend.
Since it gets powered by a 1.4-litre diesel engine that generates a maximum power of 89 Bhp and 220 Nm of peak torque, we are looking forward to our long highway drive. Also, the 6-speed gearbox with overdrive will probably let us squeeze a mileage of more than 23 km/l on the highway! Want to know more? Check this space in the coming week to know all about it.
