Hyundai’s Eon small car has been doing well in the market ever since it was launched. Now, there are rumours on the internet about the possibility of a 1.1 litre Eon which will replace the Santro.
The present Eon is priced between Rs. 2.74 lakh- Rs. 3.76 lakh and has a claimed mileage of 21 kmpl. It comes with features like a driver airbag, a gear shift indicator, remote tail gate release, remote fuel lid opener, an AC, tilt steering, music system with two front door speakers, power windows, aux-in port and a USB port.
The Eon has attractive looks which make it all the more attractive in a segment full of drab boxy small cars. It is powered by an 814 cc, petrol motor that makes 55 bhp of power and 77 Nm of torque.
This means that the Eon runs out of breath on open highways. A more power full 1.1 litre engine will mean that the Eon will become a more drivable car. It will then be reasonably well equipped to compete with the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R.
The 1.1-litre in the Eon is expected to produce 64 bhp of power and 111 Nm of torque. The Santro which the new Eon will replace has been in the market for a long time now. The Santro feels dated compared to its competitors and is in dire need of a face lift. It may be a wise move on Hyundai’s part to replace the Santro with the 1.1 litre Eon. However the Eon has one small drawback; its gearbox feels shaky and constantly vibrates. We can only hope that Hyundai addresses this issue in the upcoming Eon.
There has been no confirmation from Hyundai about when the Eon 1.1 litre will be launched but there is a strong buzz that this car might be in the pipeline, according to Motorbeam.
