Hyundai is working on its next big launch in the Indian market – the Exter. Before the official launch, Hyundai has now revealed the cabin of the upcoming entry-level SUV that will take position below the Venue in the line-up. Hyundai has already started accepting bookings for the new car and has now officially revealed the cabin of the upcoming Exter.
The upcoming Exter is based on the Grand i10 NIOS platform and the cabin also gets a similar layout. The car gets an all-black layout with traces of olive green all over. The front seats get ‘Exter’ monikers as well.

Hyundai will offer a digital driver display, unlike the Grand i10 NIOS with the Exter. The base variants might offer the analogue dials though. The car will come loaded with features just like all other Hyundai products. We will get to see goodies like an 8.0-inch infotainment screen, connected car tech like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and wireless phone charger as well. The climate control system is automatic, the Exter will also offer features like automatic headlamps, cruise control and a sunroof.
The safety net of the Exter consists of features like six airbags as standard, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, electronic stability control and ISOFIX child seat mounts. Earlier Hyundai revealed that the Exter will get 2,450mm of wheelbase and a height of 1,631mm. It will take on the Tata Punch in the market and gets a 5mm longer wheelbase and is 16mm taller compared to the Punch.
The Exter features a boxy design that gives it an SUV-like appearance. The rear of the car showcases H-shaped LED inserts in the tail lamp, creating a distinctive look. Connecting the tail lamps is a black band on the tailgate, which also houses the Hyundai logo. Adding to the muscular appeal, the rear view of the Hyundai Exter includes a robust-looking faux silver skid plate positioned within the black body cladding on the lower portion of the rear bumper. Completing the design, reflectors are positioned on the upper corners of the faux silver skid plate.
Petrol-only engine options
The Exter is expected to be equipped with a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine, delivering a power output of 83 PS and torque of 114 Nm. It will come with a standard 5-speed manual gearbox, and there may also be an option for a 5-speed AMT. For the higher variants, there could be an additional choice of a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which is already available in the Venue model.
In terms of competition, the Exter will be pitted against other sub-compact SUVs like the Tata Punch and Citroen C3. It will also face competition from lower-spec, naturally-aspirated variants of compact SUVs such as the Nissan Magnite, and Renault Kiger.
