Hyundai Grand i10 Nios to get CNG variant soon, 1.0 litre turbo petrol from Venue

Hyundai recently launched the Grand i10 Nios in the Indian market with a base price of Rs. 4.99 lakh. The hatchback chiefly rivals the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Swift and the Ford Figo among others in the segment. As of now, the car is available with a choice of two engines, one of which is a 1.2-litre petrol unit while the other is a 1.2-litre diesel unit. In the coming months though, Hyundai will also launch a CNG powered variant of the Grand i10 Nios in India. As reported by CarDekho, the CNG variant is likely to be made available in the Magna variant of the car which is the case with the older Grand i10.

Hyundai offers a CNG option on the Santro as well, which is the most affordable car in its model lineup on our shores. Therefore, it should not be long before the South Korean manufacturer comes out with a greener alternative for the Grand i10 Nios too. As of now, the Grand i10 Nios Magna petrol variant is priced at Rs 5.84 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). Hence, the CNG variant is likely to be priced above the Rs 6 lakh mark (ex-showroom). The availability of a CNG option on the Grand i10 Nios will appeal to a lot of metro city dwellers where CNG is easily available and results in lower running costs.

The other news regarding the Grand i10 Nios is that Hyundai may also bring a more powerful turbo petrol option for the hatchback. The engine we are talking about is the same 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol unit that does the duty on the Hyundai Venue. To let you know, a sportier version of the Grand i10 Nios has already been spied testing in Europe and was teased in official sketches a few weeks back. Going by the spy shots that have surfaced till date, this Euro-spec sporty Grand i10 Nios carries sportier-looking front grille and bigger air intakes.

Other prominent changes seen were bigger and more stylish alloys, wider tires, and dual exhaust pipes among others. This could well be an N-Line variant of the car which is Hyundai’s way of calling the souped-up version of its regular car. Going by the report, Hyundai India’s officials have disclosed that there is a high probability of introducing the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine to the  Grand i10 Nios lineup. This engine is globally available in two states of tune – 100PS and 120PS. The motor on the Venue is the higher tuned one but for the Venue, it is expected that Hyundai will bring the lower tuner 100 PS engine.  However, since the Grand i10 Nios is much lighter than the Venue, their won’t be any significant power loss in real-world driving.
