After the success of the Hyundai i20’s petrol version in India, Hyundai is all set to release the diesel version of the car on July 7, 2009.The diesel version of the Hyundai i20 is expected to feature a 1.4-liter powered engine with Common Rail Direct Fuel Injection (CRDI) technology. According to experts, the diesel version will be 15-20 per cent more expensive than the petrol variant.
The petrol variant of the Hyundai i20 is priced between Rs 4.78 lakhs and Rs 5.81 lakhs. The Hyundai i20 diesel version may well cost something between Rs 5.75 lakhs and Rs 7.75 lakhs.
The diesel engine of the Hyundai i20 is expected to give better fuel efficiency, higher torque, and better handling capability when compared to the petrol version.
Given its 1.4-liter diesel engine, the Hyundai i20 will come under the small car excise norms, and will take on cars like the Ford Fusion, Maruti Swift’s diesel version, Maruti Ritz’s diesel version, Skoda Fabia, and Fiat Grande Punto.
Rumor has it that, after the launch of Hyundai i20 diesel, Hyundai will also launch the 1.4-liter petrol engine Hyundai i20.
An automatic transmission version of the Hyundai i20’s petrol version is also being talked about.
Hyundai has already launched their 1.4-liter and 1.6-liter diesel engine in the international market.
Hyundai has been doing fairly well in the Indian market. The company has already notched up a 20 per cent market share in the passenger car segment and aims to touch 25 per cent by the end of 2012.
Although the Hyundai i20 was priced at Rs 4.79 lakh, it has performed well in the Indian market.
