Hyundai India has deleted a bunch of features from the i20 Elite premium hatchback’s top-end Asta variant. This information was first brought to the notice to Team-BHP by a reader. Five features from the i20 Elite Asta have been deleted. They are: Speed sensing auto door lock, smart key, rear wiper, rear windscreen washer and diamond cut alloy wheels. Instead of Diamond Cut alloy wheels, Hyundai is now offering regular five spoke alloy wheels. The i20 Elite Asta variant is sold in both petrol and diesel engines, and prices start from Rs. 6.98 lakhs.
The Asta 1.2 Petrol is powered by a 1,200 cc petrol engine with 82 Bhp-115 Nm on tap. A five speed manual gearbox is standard. The Asta 1.4 Diesel is powered by a 1,400cc turbocharged diesel engine that outputs 89 Bhp-220 Nm. A 6 speed manual gearbox is standard on the diesel engines. Twin airbags and ABS are standard on the i20 Asta variants. The car will soon receive a facelift, and the latest feature changes on the Asta variant may be a precursor to Hyundai doing a variant rejig on the facelifted model.
The facelifted i20 Elite is expected to be showcased at the 2018 Indian Auto Expo. It is likely to get visual changes on the exteriors. Additional features are expected on the interiors. Hyundai will drop the 1.4 liter petrol engine and 4 speed automatic transmission on the facelifted model, and instead launch a new CVT equipped 1.2 petrol variant.
The new 1.2 CVT petrol automatic variant is expected to be cheaper than the outgoing 1.4 AT model. The facelifted i20 Elite’s prices are expected to be similar to that of the outgoing model. In India, the i20 Elite competes with the Maruti Baleno and the Volkswagen Polo GT twins.
