The next major all-new product from South Korean car maker Hyundai for the Indian market will be the iX25 compact SUV that is likely to be showcased at the upcoming Beijing Motor Show. The iX25 compact SUV will rival the likes of the Ford EcoSport and the Renault Duster.
Although the iX25 will go on sale in international car markets later this year, an Indian launch will not happen until next year. This information was revealed by Mr Rakesh Srivatsava, the Head of Sales and Marketing at Hyundai India, at today’s launch of the Xcent compact sedan.
Over the last year or so, Hyundai has been spotted testing the iX25 on Indian roads. The SUV will be built locally with a large quantum of localization in order to keep prices competitive. Talking design, the Hyundai iX25 will embody the car maker’s Storm Edge design philosophy, a variation of the Fluidic philosophy.
Also seen on the Santa Fe crossover, the Storm Edge design philosophy of the iX25 will give the SUV a butch appearance with a combination of curves and straight lines driving home the SUV appeal. Both petrol and turbo diesel engines will be offered on the iX25.
The ix25 will share its platform with the 2015, next-gen Hyundai i20 hatchback and a future MPV. 1.4 liter and 1.6 liter turbo diesel engines are likely to be offered on the iX25, which is likely to measure about 4.25 meters in length. A 2,570 mm wheelbase, 5 seats in a 2+3 layout and rear AC vents are the details which have been revealed.
Given its dimensions, the iX25 is likely to be pricier than the Ford EcoSport but similarly priced to the Renault Duster. Projector headlamps, LED day time running lamps, rear disc brakes, an all wheel drive system and independent rear suspension are the other features likely to be offered on the Hyundai iX25 compact SUV.
