Hyundai sells 2.5 lakh i20 cars, adds AV navigation system to celebrate

Hyundai Motors India Limited (HMIL) has achieved a milestone of selling 2,50,000 i20 premium hatchback cars worldwide.

The company sold 92,000 cars in India and 1.68 lakh cars overseas through exports from its Chennai plant. Hyundai has decided to celebrate this success with its customers, by adding a GPS-based Audio Video Navigation (AVN) system to the Asta variant of the i20.

H. W. Park, managing director and CEO of HMIL said the i20 has become the most popular car in the premium hatchback segment within two years of its launch. He thanked all the i20 owners and said that to value add further and make i20 even more attractive, the company is introducing the AVN.

The AVN comes only in the Asta variant (petrol and diesel inclusive) of the i20. The AVN is a 2 DIN system with 5 inch LCD and touchscreen interface. This satellite-based voice-guided navigation system contains locations, route options, Hyundai touch points, restaurants, hotels, hospitals, malls etc stored in it. The AVN has an SD memory card with pre-loaded navigation software that supports 8 Indian languages and stores users’ favorite routes. The back-end is powered by MapmyIndia.

The touch screen will allow a user to easily select a destination and drive without a worry, as the voice-guidance system will give clear instructions wherever needed.

Apart from navigation, the AVN also takes care of in-car entertainment supporting Bluetooth, iPod/USB and DVD video. Bluetooth helps a user answer phone calls on the move by pairing the mobile phone and AVN. Additionally, the steering mounted audio buttons and phone call buttons ensure hassle-free driving. But comfort comes with a premium. The price of the Hyundai i20 Asta petrol with AVN system is Rs. 6,30,439* (starting price, ex-showroom, New Delhi).

Hyundai is the largest passenger car exporter and second largest car maker in India. Hyundai Santro, i10 and i20 are among the top 10 most selling cars in India today.  In October, Hyundai sold 7,642 units of the i20 hatchback in India. The Hyundai i20 is a winner among other premium hatchbacks such as Skoda Fabia, Volkswagen Polo, Honda Jazz and Fiat Punto. The i20 scores on equipment level, looks and overall driving conveniences, besides after sales support and better resale value. These are some of the factors that have made the i20 a success and influenced buyer decisions.
