There are over 60 safety features in the all-new Hyundai Tucson and 45 of these features are standard across the variants. Tucson is built on a safe structure. Hyundai has used advanced hot-stamped high-strength steel in Tucson, making it very stable, safe and light.
Additionally, there are safety features that make the Hyundai Tucson the safest car in the segment. Here are a few of them.
Hyundai Smart Sense Level – 2 ADAS
The all-new Tucson is the only car in the segment to offer an Advanced Driver Assistance System or ADAS. It is Level-2 ADAS that can do a plethora of tasks and make the drive convenient while also making the vehicle much safer.
The ADAS system works with inputs from radars, sensors and high-definition cameras to detect obstacles on the road. It then responds with effective countermeasures for impact avoidance and also offers a slew of authentic technology.
Blind-spot collision warning (BCW)
As there is no concept of following lane driving norms in India, Hyundai Tucson’s sensors and 360 cameras work in tandem to warn the driver of any kind of obstacles or vehicles that might fall in the blind spot of the vehicle. The system works by giving visual and audio alerts to the driver.
Blind-spot view monitor (BVM)
The all-new Tucson not only warns you about the obstacles and vehicles in the blind spot but it shows you the hidden vehicles. Tucson’s camera mounted on the ORVM shows the footage from the blind spot on the fully-digital instrument cluster. This allows the driver to be aware of the surroundings and make safer moves.
Blind-spot collision avoidance assist (BCA)
The BCA helps to avoid any collision if it detects that the Tucson is about to crash and it automatically applies the brakes after giving a warning to the driver.
Forward collision avoidance assist (FCA)
The Hyundai Tucson’s radar and cameras can sense potential front collisions with cars, pedestrians or cyclists and can warn automatically with audio and visual signals for you to respond. It also applies emergency brakes in case the driver fails to respond to avoid a collision.
Driver attention warning (DAW)
Most drivers who drive over long distances feel tired and drained out. It causes a lot of accidents on the roads, especially on the highways. The Hyundai Tucson offers the Driver attention warning that detects driver fatigue by sensing how the driver is reacting. The DAW suggests the driver to take a break, reducing the possibility of an accident caused by a driver being tired.
Smart cruise control
The all-new Hyundai Tucson offers smart cruise control with stop-and-go. This Tucson detects the speed of the car in the front and it automatically adjusts its speed to maintain a safe distance. The Tucson also speeds up to the preset cruising speed once the vehicle in front starts to speed up.
In fact, when the vehicle in front stops completely, the Tucson stops too. It starts automatically as the vehicle in front starts rolling. This sure is one of the most convenient safety technology available in any car from this segment.
Lane assists
The all-new Tucson also offers Lane follow assist (LFA) that moves the steering wheel automatically to ensure that the car remains in the centre of the lane markings. It also uses the front camera to detect any slow drifting away from the lane. The steering makes automatic adjustments to ensure that the car does not leave the lane marking.
Safe exit warning (SEW)
There are a lot of accidents caused by the unsafe exit of the occupants from the car. Hyundai Tucson continuously monitors the blind spot for traffic and warns the occupants when they occupant is about to open the door and there is a vehicle or a pedestrian behind. It gives an audio warning.
Rear cross-traffic collision avoidance assist (RCCA)
Reversing from a car to a parking spot can be quite dangerous. The Hyundai SmartSense detects any incoming traffic and automatically warns the driver about an oncoming vehicle. In fact, it can also apply the brakes automatically to avoid a collision.
Surround monitor
The all-new Tucson has a perfect size for the cramped city roads. But to make manoeuvring it around much easier, Hyundai offers a 360-degree view camera that is called Surround Monitor. The system gathers footage from different cameras set up on the car’s perimeter and stitches it together to bring seamless video footage. It is very useful while parking the car too.
Airbags
The all-new Hyundai Tucson offers as many as six airbags. The Tucson offers driver and co-driver airbags. There are additional side and curtain airbags to mitigate the injuries caused by a T-bone or frontal-side collision.
Vehicle stability management (VSM)
The VSM comes into play when driving on slippery surfaces. It uses individual brakes to control the speed of the wheels. This ensures that the vehicle does not go out of control.
Disc Brakes
While most cars offer only front brakes, Tucson gets highly effective disc brakes on all four wheels. The disc brakes are much more effective than drum brakes and reduce the braking distance substantially. Disc brakes also run cooler and do not fade during long journeys and downhill drives.
Hill-start Assist Control (HAC)
Driving uphill and the feeling of rolling back can be quite scary. The Hyundai Tucson gets the Hill-start Assist control, which ensures that it does not roll back even when you lift off the brake pedal on a slope.
Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
Keeping the perfect tyre pressure is essential to safety. Perfect pressure keeps the tyre from bursting and in rainy situations, it also keeps the car from aquaplaning. The onboard TPMS of the Hyundai Tucson gives real-time information on the tyre pressure.
The sheer depth of safety elements, combined with its robust structure, make the new Hyundai Tuscon one of the safest cars across segments and price range.
