Hyundai wants to become India’s BIGGEST selling SUV brand with the Venue!

Bookings for the Hyundai Venue will open on the 2nd of May, 2019. The compact SUV will be launched a couple of weeks down the line, on the 21st of May. Hyundai has big ambitions for the SUV segment, and plans to dominate it with two key offerings – the Venue and the Creta. Hyundai is planning to sell about 10,000 units of the Venue in India each month, and if the South Korean automaker actually manages these numbers, it’ll be India’s best selling SUV brand with nearly 20,000 unit sales each month. The Hyundai Venue was unveiled globally a couple of weeks ago. The concurrent unveil happened on a ship off the Indian coast, and at the New York Motor Show.

Puneet Anand, senior general manager and group head (marketing) of Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), said,

If we manage to do 10,000 units of the Venue every month, we will be the largest SUV seller in India, selling 20,000  units every month. It’s an India-specific vehicle aimed at the millennial in the age group of 25-30 years, who will  use the car as a third space, apart from home and office. The e-SIM will be activated once the car is delivered to  the customer. It will have a roaming network with 33 features, including 10 that are India-specific. It will compete in the sub-four metre SUV segment that posted a growth of 25 per cent last year.

The Venue sub-4 meter compact SUV will be a global product, selling both in developed and developing markets. It  remains to be seen whether Hyundai would consider exporting the SUV to countries around the world from India. The SUV will rival the likes of the Maruti Vitara Brezza, the Ford EcoSport, the Tata Nexon and the recently launched Mahindra XUV300 in the Indian market.

Hyundai will offer 3 engine options on the Venue, two of them borrowed from the i20 Elite. The petrol engines on  offer will be a 1.2 liter-4 cylinder naturally aspirated unit with 82 Bhp-114 Nm, and a 1 liter-3 cylinder  turbocharged petrol with 112 Bhp-172 Nm. While the 1.2 liter motor will use a 5 speed manual gearbox, the turbo  petrol engine will be offered with a 7 speed, twin clutch automatic gearbox. Hyundai will also offer a 1.4 liter  turbocharged diesel motor with the Venue. This motor will put out 89 Bhp-220 Nm, and will be paired with a 6 speed manual gearbox.
