Hyundai Motors India’s first ever compact SUV has reached a milestone of 4,50,000 sales in just 50 months of launch. Hyundai entered the super competitive compact SUV segment with their Venue in 2019. Back then the compact SUV was launched at the starting price of Rs. 6.55 lakh (ex-showroom).
Currently, the Hyundai Venue is offered in 13 total variants and there are 3 engine options to choose from. These engine options are:
1.2L Petrol Kappa engine
1.0L Turbo Petrol
1.5L Turbo Diesel
Talking about the gearboxes, there are 3 options on offer: a 5 speed manual, a 7 speed DCT and a 6 speed iMT. However, these 3 transmission options are only available in the petrol engine. The 1.5L Diesel engine is paired with a 6 speed manual transmission only.
The current price of Venue starts from Rs 8.71 lakh for the base 1.2L petrol E MT variant for the top-end diesel SX (O) MT variant the prices goes upto Rs 15.40 lakh.
The Hyundai Venue is offered in a highly competitive segment with competition from other major players like Tata Nexon, Tata Punch, Maruti Brezza, Mahindra XUV300, Bolero Neo and the Kia Sonet, along with the Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger and new launches like Maruti Suzuki Fronx and Maruti Suzuki Jimny. Even after this much competition the compact SUV has managed to sell over 4,50,000 units in just 50 months since its launch.
Hyundai has introduced their new car in this segment, the Hyundai Exter which is the smaller sibling of the venue itself and comes in the budget range.
Over the years, Hyundai has launched one facelift of the Hyundai Venue which has helped in maintaining these impressive sales numbers. Hyundai launched Venue facelift in June 2022 and changed the design. The design was made in-line with Hyundai’s global cars such as the Tucson and Palisade. Hyundai also launched the Venue N-line in September 2022 which was a more sporty version of the Venue itself.
Talking about the year to year journey of sales, Venue managed to reach 50,000 sales in 6 months, the 1 lakh sales mark was achieved in 15 months and 2 lakh sales were completed in 25 months. 3 lakh sales milestone was crossed in April 2023 which is 36 months after launch.
Having sold 454,563 units since its launch, the Venue comprises 20% of Hyundai Motor India’s 2.20 million passenger vehicle sales up to July 2023. Additionally, it constitutes a significant 43% of the company’s utility vehicle sales of 10,59,685 units. Given this track record and the introduction of the new Exter model, can the Hyundai Venue-Exter duo further enhance the company’s growth in the compact SUV segment?
