Hyundai India will launch the Venue sub-4 meter compact SUV on the 21st of May, 2019. Ahead of this big launch, the leaks seem to have begun in full earnest, a leaked ‘dealer booking price’ figure floating on Team-BHP indicates that the top-end diesel variant of the Hyundai Venue would be priced at Rs. 10.43 lakhs, which makes it about Rs. 35,000 pricier than the Maruti Brezza’s top-end ZDi+ Dual Tone trim. This is assuming that the Venue’s pricing reflects ex-showroom Delhi figures. The same source has prices of two more Venue variants: SX (0) Turbo Petrol at Rs. 10.09 lakhs, and SX Turbo DCT (petrol automatic) at Rs. 10.66 lakhs. Currently, the Maruti Brezza is the best selling SUV in its segment, and is available only in 2 power train combinations: Diesel Manual and Diesel AMT.
If these prices are indeed true, the Hyundai Venue will be a premium-priced SUV in its segment, a-la-big brother Creta. Also, this kind of pricing will be consistent with Hyundai’s price philosophy, which involves loading up a car with features and then putting a premium price tag on it. The Venue was showcased a few weeks ago, and the SUV looks butch yet compact. It has a sub-4 meter form factor, and an imposing front grille.
The interiors reek of a high quality finish, which could be the best-in-segment. Also, the SUV does get a slew of safety features and creature comforts, making it one of the best equipped SUVs in its segment, second only to the Mahindra XUV300 – the current feature king of the sub-4 meter compact SUV class.
As for mechanicals, the Hyundai Venue will share two engines with the India-spec i20 Elite premium hatchback. These engines are the 1.2 liter-4 cylinder VTVT naturally aspirated petrol with 82 Bhp-115 Nm on tap, and the 1.4 liter-4 cylinder turbocharged diesel. While the petrol motor will get a 5 speed manual gearbox, the diesel will get a 6 speed manual. The Venue will have many firsts to its name, for a Hyundai sold in India.
It’ll be Hyundai’s first car in India to offer a twin clutch automatic gearbox, in this case a 7 speed unit. Another first will be the turbo petrol engine, which displaces 1 liter in a 3 cylinder layout. this motor will make 118 Bhp-172 Nm, and will get 2 gearbox options: a 6 speed manual and a 7 speed twin clutch automatic.
In terms of safety features, the top-spec Venue will offer 6 airbags, ABS+EBD, traction control, vehicle stability management (Hyundai-speak for ESP), hill hold assist, cruise control, reverse parking sensors and a reverse parking camera. As for creature comforts, the Venue will get a twin zone, automatic climate control unit, wireless charging, e-SIM for Telematics (remote starting, car locator, remote sunroof and window operation, remote AC operation, automatic headlamps, smart key, push button start, rain sensing wipers, air purifier, cooled glovebox, electric sunroof and a touchscreen infotainment unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
