Hyundai India has just opened bookings for the Venue sub-4 meter compact SUV. All Hyundai dealers across India are taking bookings for the new vehicle, at booking amounts of Rs. 21,000. The Venue will be launched in India on the 21st of May, 2019, as Hyundai’s first offering in the sub-4 meter compact SUV space. The Venue will take on the Maruti Brezza, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport and the Mahindra XUV300. Hyundai is likely to price the Venue between Rs. 7.5 lakhs and Rs. 11 lakhs, which means that there will be some overlap between the new SUV and the best selling Creta. Hyundai hopes to sell about 10,000 units of the Venue each month in India.
These numbers will propel Hyundai to first place in the Indian SUV market as the Creta and Tucson together bring about 9,000 to 10,000 monthly units. Currently, the best selling SUV in India is the Maruti Vitara Brezza, which single-handedly brings in 12,000-14,000 units on an average each month. Also, the best selling SUV brand in India is Maruti, if the Brezza and S-Cross sales are clubbed together. This status that Maruti has been having for the past couple of years could be soon taken by Hyundai, which is poised to clock sales of 18,000-20,000 monthly units once the Venue hits the market.
The Venue will have a range of firsts for Hyundai. It will be India’s first connected SUV, offering a range of car functions through a mobile phone interface. from starting the car remotely and immobilizing it when stolen to operating the AC and windows, the latest Hyundai infotainment package called BlueLink on the Venue promises quite a lot. Apart from being a connected car, the Venue will also be Hyundai’s first vehicle in India to offer turbocharged petrol and twin clutch automatic options. Mechanically, it’ll be Hyundai’s most updated car, with three engine options and three gearbox options.
The engines in question are the 1.2 liter-4 cylinder naturally aspirated petrol making 82 Bhp-114 Nm, the 1 liter-3 cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with 118 Bhp-172 Nm, and a 1.4 liter-4 cylinder turbocharged diesel engine with 89 Bhp and 220 Nm. The 1.2 liter petrol will get a 5 speed manual gearbox while the 1 liter turbo petrol will get a 7 speed, twin clutch automatic. The diesel engine will be offered with a 6 speed manual gearbox. All variants of the Hyundai Venue will be front wheel driven, and the SUV will not be offered with an all wheel drive (AWD) layout even as an option.
Key features offered on the top-end Venue will be six airbags, ABS, traction control, electronic stability program, reverse parking camera, electric sunroof, automatic wipers, automatic headlamps, wireless charging, push button start, keyless entry and a self cleaning AC. Deliveries of the Hyundai Venue are expected to begin soon after the launch.
