Hyundai has just given the Verna sedan a bunch of new variants. This should make the sedan better equipped to fight its key rivals – the Maruti Ciaz and Honda City. The Hyundai Verna gains new automatic variants at the top-end and a new cut price, 1.4 liter diesel engined variant at the bottom end. These changes are expected to make the car more attractive to buyers, and in turn boost sales.
The 1.4 liter diesel engine on the Verna is the same unit that’s found on the Hyundai Creta and Elite i20. Tried and tested, this engine puts out 89 Bhp-220 Nm, and has ample performance for regular driving. It’s mated to a 6 speed manual gearbox. The Verna 1.4 Diesel is available in two variants – E and EX. While the E variant is priced at Rs. 9.29 lakhs, the EX variant is priced at Rs. 9.99 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi.
The two other newly introduced top-end automatic trims of the Hyundai Verna are petrol SX+ and diesel SX (O). While the petrol SX+ variant is priced at Rs. 11.52 lakhs, the diesel SX(O) costs Rs. 14 lakhs. The petrol engine is a 1.6 liter unit with 122 Bhp-151 Nm while the diesel is a 1.6 liter turbocharged motor with 126 Bhp-260 Nm. 6 speed torque converter automatic gearboxes are offered with these engines.
Talking of the features that are available in the SX+ Petrol Automatic trim, the Hyundai Verna gets projector headlamps with LED DRL and positioning lamps, LED tail lamps, 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, powered wing mirrors with folding function, leather-clad steering wheel and gear knob, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an electric sunroof, automatic boot lid opening, keyless entry, start/stop button, wireless phone charging slot, twin airbags and ABS.
As for the SX(O) variant, curtain airbags and side airbags are notable safety feature inclusions taking the total number of airbags on offer to 6. This trim also gets additional features in the form of leather trim for the doors, adjustable rear seat headrests, leather clad ventilated seats and telescopic adjustment function for the steering.
As is evident, the Hyundai Verna is a luxurious, feature packed car, and with the addition of new variants, it’s more attractive than ever before. Both the Maruti Ciaz and the Honda City are a notch below the Verna in terms of the sheer features offered. Also, the Maruti Ciaz and Honda City are less powerful than the top-end Verna trims.
