Not everyone can afford these cars. Yet, they remain a source of inspiration and earn the admiration of millions of car enthusiasts around the world. These are the ultimate status symbols of the rich and famous.

Most of the world’s most expensive cars are now officially available in India too. Here’s a list of the ten most expensive cars officially available in India, in descending order of ex-showroom price.

Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport

Price: Rs. 16 crore

The Bugatti Veyron is made by a Volkswagen Group company and is available in India through Delhi-based Exclusive Motors. The car is powered by a 16-cylinder, W-shaped engine, that puts out a whopping 1,001 bhp of power. The car can hit a top speed of over 400 kmph in under a minute, with a 0-100 kmph time of just 2.5 seconds! It is a convertible with two roof options – a temporary umbrella- like roof and a removable hard top.

Koenigsegg Agera

Price: Rs. 10 crore

The Koenigsegg Agera is the relatively not-so-rich man’s answer to the Bugatti Veyron. It is available in India through the Mumbai-base company “The Estd”. ,powered by a 4.7-liter aluminium V8 engine with twin-turbo super chargers developing a mind-blowing 910 bhp of maximum power and an impressive 112 kgm (1,100 Nm) of torque at 5,100 rpm. Koenigsegg claims the Agera takes 3.1 seconds from 0–100 kmph and 8.9 seconds from 0-200 kmph. The top speed of the Agera is 390 kmph.

Maybach 62 and 57S

Price: Rs. 4.9 crore – Rs. 5.2 crore

Mercedes-Benz re-launched the Maybach 57S and 62 luxury cars in India last year. Both models are powered by 6-litre, 12-cylinder engines though at 1,000 Nm, the 57 S has more power and torque. The 550 bhp Maybach 62 claims to do a 0-100 kph in 5.4 seconds while the 630 bhp Maybach 57S can do the same task at a rip-roaring 4.9 seconds! However, Maybach may not be around after 2013. Mercedes plans to discontinue the brand and replace it with the S600 Pullman.

Rolls-Royce Phantom

Price: Rs. 4.0 crore

At one point the Roll-Royce Phantom was considered the most-expensive car, but not anymore. It’s relatively affordable compared to the others and still carries the prestige that comes with owning a Rolls-Royce. The Phantom is powered by a V-12, 6.7 litre petrol engine that puts out 453 bhp of power, with a smooth six-speed automatic. The car is loaded with luxury features that can put many 5-star hotel suites to shame.

Lamborghini Aventador LP700

The Lamborghini Aventador is available in India through two dealers in Delhi and Mumbai. The car is powered by a 692 bhp, 12-cylinder engine and can do a top speed of 350 kmph. This low-slung two-seater has phenomenal acceleration and can do 0-100 kmph in 2.9 seconds. The car features an all-wheel drive system for more traction and a carbon-fibre body shell.

Ferrari 599

The Ferrari 599 is Ferrari’s flagship model in India and is available at its showroom in Janpath, New Delhi. The car is powered by a front-mounted, 6-litre, V12 engine that puts out 612 bhp of power. The car has a claimed top speed of 330 kmph and can do 0-100 in a relatively more relaxed 3.7 seconds, compared to the Lamborghini Aventador. The company plans to open a second showroom in Mumbai soon.

Bentley Azure

The Bentley Azure is a curious mix of a convertible with a super-luxury sports car and smacks of exclusivity. The Azure is powered by a 6.7 litre V8 engine that puts out 500 bhp of power and 1000 Nm of torque. It can do a top speed of 288 kmph and 0-100 kmph is a more relaxed 5.1 seconds. It’s a car in one can enjoy the best of all kinds of motoring – open top, sporty performance or sheer luxurious cruising.

Rolls-Royce Ghost

Now here’s a Rolls Royce with sporty performance. The Ghost is powered by a new 6.6-litre twin-turbo V12 engine that develops a whopping 563 bhp. But what’s more exciting is the 780 Nm of torque that kicks in as low as 1,500 rpm. The car can do a 0-100 kmph time of 4.9 seconds. Aston Martin DBS

Price: Rs. 2.8 crore

Aston Martin is a brand made famous by James Bond movies. The Rapide, DB9, DBS and Vantage are all available in India. The DBS is the most expensive of its India line up after the One77 hypercar (Rs. 20 crore), of which apparently one was sold in India. The Aston Martin DBS is available through two dealers in India, Infinity Motors in Delhi and Deutsche Motoren in Mumbai. It is powered by a 5.9 litre engine that puts out 517 bhp of power and has a top speed of 305 kmph.

Bentley Mulsanne V8

The Bentley Mulsanne V8 has classic old-school Bentley lines, but with an all-new sporty exterior. It is available through its Delhi-based dealer Bentley Motors. It is powered by a 6.8 litre V8 engine that puts out 512 bhp of power and 1020 Nm of torque with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The car is done up with luxurious beige leather and authentic wood paneling, but also offers the driver a sports-car like cruising ability. It can do 0-100 kmph in about 5.2 seconds.
