Ford has begun testing the right hand drive version of the India-bound 2015 Figo/Ka hatchback. The 2015 Figo hatchback will make its debut in India next year, when it will replace the current version of the hatchback. The 2015 Figo carries over a modified version of the Fiesta (previous generation) platform of the current Figo but receives a completely new top shell and engine options. The 2015 Figo will roll out of Ford’s new factory at Sanand, Gujarat. Trial production at Sanand will commence from early next year, with the 2015 Figo hatchback pitted to roll out from April.
The 2015 Figo will be the first car to roll out from Ford India’s Sanand factory. Later next year, the 2015 Figo will be joined by a compact sedan sibling, which will essentially be a three box, sub-4 meter version of the hatchback. The compact sedan version of the 2015 Figo will replace the Classic sedan in India. Coming to the engine options on the 2015 Figo hatchback and compact sedan, both cars are expected to use a non-turbo version of the 1 liter-3 cylinder EcoBoost engine. A 1.5 liter-4 cylinder turbo diesel engine will also be offered. 5 speed manual gearboxes will be standard on both the petrol and diesel engines.
Expect the 2015 Figo to be priced similar to the outgoing model as Ford India will discontinue the current Figo as soon as the new model arrives. The same will be the case with the Classic sedan as well, which will be replaced by the compact sedan version of the 2015 Figo. While the 2015 Figo hatchback’s prices are likely to start at just under 4 lakh rupees, the sub-4 meter compact sedan’s prices are expected to be pegged a little under 5 lakh rupees. The 2015 Figo hatchback and compact sedan duo will be primed to be the new big volume spinners for Ford in India.
