Ahead of its official unveil later this month, the Jeep Compass (code-named Jeep 551/C-SUV) has been revealed through spyshots from an ad shoot in Brazil. The all-new Compass will replace the Patriot and previous generation Compass SUVs in markets around the globe. It’ll be launched in India next year.
The vehicle’s right-hand drive variants will be built in India, both for exports and the domestic market. Production is likely to begin here by mid-2017. Fiat’s Ranjangaon factory is being configured to build the first ‘official’ Made-in-India Jeep. Competitive pricing will be crucial. To this end, a high amount of localization is very likely.
In India, the Jeep Compass will sell in a 15-20 lakh rupee price band, pitting it against the likes of the Mahindra XUV500 and the Tata Hexa. It will be the country’s most affordable Jeep, and Fiat-Chrysler has big hopes revolving around the Compass.
Both petrol and diesel engines are expected to be offered on this 5 seat SUV. Front wheel and four wheel drive layouts are also likely to be offered on this monocoque SUV. 2 liter petrol and 170 Bhp Fiat Multijet diesel motors are expected to power the 2017 Compass. 6 speed manual and 9 speed automatic gearboxes will also be offered.
